My engine decided to go crazy on me. unknown amount of miles on it. My dad and I went through it all. It has a couple of stripped threads on it. One where a spark plug goes in that was fixed wrong. Second one is behind the valve cover one of the long bolts that goes in is stripped there also. My dad wants try and repair that. But think i'd rather find a rebuilt long block engine. Anyone have any recommendations on where to get one for a good price and where shipping wont cost a fortune? Currently i have a 1600cc single port. I might want to stick something in there a little bigger for kicks. I've looked at Mid america motorworks in effingham, JcWhitney and Strictly Foreign. Quotes would be great too!

thank you for your help

if you are interested in a stock 1600 i would recommend rebuilding an engine yourself.

if not you can pay about a grand and get a longblock.

The long bolts behind the valve cover, you refer to the ones that run beside the cylinders into the block? if so, thats a common problem. Case savers will stop that. And just retap the plug or get a set of heads.
Rebuilding is not that big a deal really. Plenty of threads about it~
just thinking of saving you a few bucks.

Any sites/catalogs you look at though, make sure it's current or call, prices on engines have really jumped from what they were a year ago.
Just wanted to share some info that might help.

Thanks for the help again, makes sense to replace the cylinder heads if anything. but im wondering about the bolt that goes in and where it threads in then would i have to replace the engine case? If the rethread or helicoil doesn't work...

The helicoil was already put in and its stripped now too. soo it might be a new long block now.

Well my engine is dead as a door nail. In need of a recommendation of where to by a long block or a complete turn key engine.
