Hello guys...

How did I get started in this crazy obsession called Volkswagens?
Well it all begin when I was 2. My parents gave me a little toy yellow VW.
The seed was planted. :)

14 Years later I bought my first VW, a 66 Beetle for $300.00. It ran good, but it was a beater :( I didnt do much to it other then throw on a set of nerf bars & dechrome it. I ended up selling it for $350.00 in less then a year.

Next came a 71 KG I purchase a year later at 17 for the kingly sum of $1200.
First thing came a nice dechrome job, next was removing the bumpers & filling the holes. The I got a nice 4 into 1 header, 009 & Weber Porgressive, Man did I think I was cool. Then I purchased some baby turbos & lowered the front down, nice & low (by way of one of the most unsafe ways possible, removing torsion bars). By this time I was itching to do something really crazy with it, so I cut the roof off & made a targa top out of it like a 911. This is where my Volksrodding began. Unfortunately around 18 years old I got the itch to get out of VW's & into the lowered truck scene (but that is a completely different story that involves an 88 Chevy S10 with its top cut off & bed that tilted hydraulically). So I sold the 71 KG to a friend.

Now a year had past & I really missed my dub, so I got rid of the S10 & purchased a 69 KG for only $700 (minus 1 engine), but in perfect physical shape. By way of fate, my friend gave me back the 71 KG, but the only thing I was able to salvage off of it was the engine, trans & mirrors. The body was shot now. So I transplanted the engine & tranny into the 69 & now it was complete. Thats until I got the itch to convert headlights to Porsche units, remove all chrome trim & bumpers, in addition to filling in the front air vents.
Then came the Porsche Magenta Paint. man was she sweet. Unfortunately a 1 year later someone ran a stop sign & totaled my 69 :( Boy was I bummed!
Well the insurance man gave me a tidy little envolope filled with 15 $100 bills. and I was able to keep the KG & strip it of its engine, tranny. mirrors & headlights. Now I had to find a new project.

Now I thought it was time for a change. I had always liked Notchbacks, so I mentioned this to a friend of mine who just happened to know someone that had a 69 Notch with Empi 8 spokes sitting in their yard for about the last 5 years. I purchased with baby with the insurance money and a few extra hundred of my own & then drove it home. At first all I did was throw on some 195/50/15 tires & lower it to get the right attitude all the way around.
I drove it like this for 2 years (I was poor back then :( ) Then the real fun started. I decided I was going to get it painted. So in tribute to my wrecked KG, I decided to paint It Porsche Magenta. Once it was in the paint shop I thought man wouldnt suicide doors be cool, yea lets do that. Then I was like, wouldnt a full tilt front end be cool, but not that cheap fiber glass, but the orginal metal all welded together. Not thinking this was going far enough, I said lets cut off the roof & make it into a roadster. So off came the roof, chopped the windshield, & capped the doors. Man did it look hot! I held onto the Notch until March of 1999. Man was I sad to see it go. It was the longest I ever owned a car (around 8 years total). I needed a down payment for a faster more exotic machine, my 94 300ZX. I still have this car & just payed it off. :)

There was a brief 2 year period with no VW's (I call it the dark ages). I was really frustrated & pissed that I sold my Notch. Then I found a 67 Beetle for only $225.00 with no engine or floor pans. I still have this car, now it runs & has brand new floors. And to bring you up to date, I just purchase something I thought that I would never own a 71 Super Beetle. I bought it 3 month ago with the intentions of building a German Look Vehicle. Since then I have added 2001 17" Boxter Wheels & I am now in the process of getting a T4 engine with 911 shroud to stuff in the back.

I will always remember those crazy days of cutting up my VW's. That part of me is still in there deep down somewhere. Maybe someday soon, I will bring out the SawZall & my innner Volksrodder will return.
