View Full Version : Getting my body off
spraypaintspecial
March 3rd, 2005, 10:55 AM
Well I checked my two tech books and I'm either blind or stoned, but I didn't see shit on talking the body off the pan. I remember bacvk in the day I had printouts from a website that went through the whole process. Any help or suggestions? Cause when this rain stops...IT'S ON! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/Dancing.gif

if i remember correct there are 4 bolts that hold the framehead to the bottom of the front firewall,2 under the gas tank (that hold the beam to the body),the 4 steering column bolts that hold it to the steering box,the 16? bolts that run along the bottom of the chassis,4 bolts under the rear seat and 2 bolts where the rear shock towers are.

on earlier cars there are 2 additional bigger bolts under the back seat....at least there were on my '60

Bolts and lots of them under the car on both sides. One on each side behind the rear tires. Under the rear seat also. Don't forget the two on each side under the car just back of the front wheel. And the steering shaft and wires. Then you will need two strong helpers. I think that covers it. Good luck I knew I would forget them, two under the tank.

Do a search but it's a pretty basic deal.Undo the bolts under the gas tank, under the back seat, along the sides of the car (heater channel area) and in the rear fenderwell. Disconnect the wires from the engone that go up through the body, disconnect your steering column from the steering box. Take the seats out (one less theng to lift the body over). If your voltage regulator is under the back seat, you may have wires running around there to the battery? Disconnect the speedo cable from the left front wheel. I think that's it but I may have missed something???
Now, get a buddy at each fender or at the bumpers if you have them and lift style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

funny, everyone forgot two important things:
make sure you disconnect your steering shaft from the steering box
and unplug the wires running to your motor

The Haynes manual has a pretty good graphical break-down of it, as does one of the Hot VW's Special Edition pubs.
Lines from Brake Reservoir to Master Cylinder need disconnecting as well.

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif Well...It's off! Man...There's 30 bolts on my car...that was a good work out today. Got everything off and disconnected and called three neighborhood friends over. I told them "I had the offer of a lifetime for them" and they came and we lifted it off. Thanks for the help Volksrodders... yall warned me what not to forget. I'm glad I did it...Found lots of fixes that'll be easy as hell now. I'll post some pics sometime.... Momma took the digi to school.
Time to relax a bit this weekend now style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/stoned.gif
