Stance question?

1 Attachment(s)
I'm getting ready to start a Volksrod project on my '68 that I've had about a year. I'm trying to figure out what kind of stance an I expect with my current stock beam and without raising the transmission. I currently have 1.5" drop spindles, and then I can do 2 or 3 tooth adjustment to the rear (swing axles). I just know I won't be doing an adjustable beam right off the bat.

I know the 10" beam will give me a 2.5" drop in front and I don't mind a little bit of camber on the back. I've seen a lot of pics on this site, but most of them are slammed with adjustable beams and transmission raises. Those might be options down the road a ways, but not for my "stage 1"

I know, it's a total newb question. I just want to get back to having a driver as soon as I can.

Trying to get an idea what I might end up with after the beam install and rear spine adjustment. If anybody has some pics they can point me to I'd appreciate it.

Here's what I'm starting with. A good reliable driver, with 205/65-15 and 168/80-15 tires. Fenders on the other side have some issues, so it seems like a good base to start with. Front tires might have to get swapped out for something smaller, but will determine that after I get the beam on.

I couldn’t see the pics, and my experience was with a ‘71 bug I built with a Corvair IRS powertrain and a modified Ghia disc brake front end. A pair of steel 13” x 7” wheels up front helped bring things down. But there are a lot of Folks on this site with up to date suggestions. Your ride sounds like a cool project. Don’t sweat asking newbie’ questions. 👍👍

Here's mine:

This is with stock rear height, 10" extension with 2.5" drop + 2.5" drop spindles. Wheels are 15x5 fronts with 15x8 rears, tire sizes are 185/55R-15 and 225/70R15

This was it with 185/65R-15 front and 225/60R-15 rear..

Appreciate that type of info and pics. That helps a bit.
Thanks.

no worries, sorry I don't have an old profile photo for a better comparison..

I can tell you this, the extension will KILL your turning radius and small tires on it will make it worse! haha, things I used to U-turn are now 3-5 point turns.. ;P

That's one thing I had never considered in all these modifications. Turning radius is one of the great things about our old VW's... But I think I can give up the one thing for a cool look. Another "Thanks for that." from me as well. I have been making a lot more money the last couple of months, so maybe I can get some work done on my own build by this time next year... Hopefully building a place to do the work by then.

I cut the steering stop off of my beam to clean it up and it turns a little sharper now.

Yeah I don't mind much, it's not a rally car or anything :P

I hadn't thought of cutting the stop off..
