Idle hands...

Re: What have you been doing during lockdown
Are you going for “Idle hands are the VolksRods workplace?”
Nice work, you’re inspiring me to get the cab floor Patched. And then ‘on to the left side rocker, and away!’ |
Re: What have you been doing during lockdown
I swapped from Weber ICT’s to a single Dellorto. The first step in my turbo conversion. But haven’t done much else to the car. Actually been busy with the empanada trailer. And food prep takes all my time.

Re: What have you been doing during lockdown

Re: What have you been doing during lockdown
Nothing has changed for me, going to the store is a big social even for me, it's the only time I see anyone other than my wife, my neighbors and my brother
I did a little patch work on mine over a month ago, bought some body filler, just haven't gotten around to doing anything else, still bare metal, I started a fire welding those holes up, luckily I had a fire extinguisher next to me, I'm guessing it was that hair they put up inside these things, just glad it isn't that foam Last week I tried to start it but the battery was dead, I might hook up the charger today, I'm just gonna buy a new disc brake setup for the front since replacing everything will cost just as much, I may as well just get it all in one shot https://i.vgy.me/ZmwFFG.jpg https://i.vgy.me/q0Woqf.jpg It's still tough for me to get much of anything done, Shmitty will be 2 years old in 4 days (May 15th), he's starting to get better, but still insists on being right next to me when I try to do anything, at the moment he is sleeping, most days I lay around when he is sleeping, if I use my phone for anything longer than 5 minutes he will bark at me till I get up and play with him I do have a video of me opening my garage door with him, if it moves and makes noise he wants it, that includes a lawnmower, angle grinder, and sawzall, those are just a few things I've tried to use unsuccessfully, until I put him on a chain When I find the garage door video I'll put the link here Ron |
Re: What have you been doing during lockdown
I decided to finish my knife grinder after buying some belts, using all small pieces of angle and channel I've been saving, I still need to cut a few more pieces and put it together, see if I can finish this in the first week of 'this' year
https://i.vgy.me/EJ9sdf.jpg https://i.vgy.me/inJdML.jpg I also picked up a welder for $50 220 volt 180 amp, it was missing something for the wire spool, simple fix, welds great, now if only I could still weld |
Re: What have you been doing during lockdown
Slick project!
Out here I’m looking for ‘seat heaters’ for the 1/3-2/3 front seat in the Transporter and the I’ll install the new seat covers. |
Re: What have you been doing during lockdown
Picked up a rough but mostly complete Bugatti kit car. Was going to post a picture, but have no idea what is being asked for in order to do it. Used to be so easy. :Idunno:

Re: What have you been doing during lockdown
I have my engine out. Heads off. Did trans mounts. Will be getting ready to add a turbo. Hopefully all for spring!
|
Re: What have you been doing during lockdown
I put the engine in the eldo last Friday, spent most of the week pushing and pulling it out of the driveway, now it's waiting for me to move the Volksrod out of the way so I can call a scrap guy to haul it off, he is gonna give me $150 for it, I put the engine back in the Volksrod yesterday, now I need to hook up a fuel line today and start it up, but first I need to go pick up a new copy of the title so I can collect a few $$$
Oh yeah, my garage is a disaster, looks as if a tornado came thru the inside, 10 years of junk collecting on, under, and around the eldo creates a mess, I hope it doesn't take me till June to clean up, Lesson learned, don't hang out at a scrap yard :blink::unsure::unsure: Ron |
Re: What have you been doing during lockdown
Damn, Ron... getting an official title here would offset the entire amount they are giving you for scrap... Hope yours is just a few dollars. Couldn't they just run a carfax and verify you are the owner?

Re: What have you been doing during lockdown
I’m still working on getting the ‘YamaSaki bike rolling so I can sell it as a project. The frame is the modified upper section of a late ‘70s KZ-1000. Fuel tank is a modified and nicely painted unit from the same bike. Lower half is a Yamaha Seca shaft drive setup with a Kawi rear wheel with a custom adapter to run the Kawi rear mag wheel and disc brake. Front suspension, wheel with dual discs came from the Kawi. Seat, tail light plus front fairing are from a 550 Seca. Engine is a low miles 900 Seca. A mechanic friend around the corner is interested. Then I can get back to the Single Cab and such.

Re: What have you been doing during lockdown
I replaced the floor pans, left heater channel, luggage tray behind the back seat and rust repair around the heat outlets uner the back seat on my wife's 70 bug. I also got the body work finished on her 64 convertible bug last summer. Next is my 65 sunroof bug. Gonna drop the 1904 and split the case, something going on with the cam timing, maybe cam bolts came loose.

Re: What have you been doing during lockdown
Excellent, Ron... I've had so many things like that turn into money pits, I can't imagine having an outcome that positive. LOL
It's a good idea to get your compressor fixed... I find I can't live without one. I have so many things I work with air... I'm so dependent on them I have 2 6o gallon IR 3.5 hp units... One was a fluke, I got for free, and both are kept in working order... Hook both up to my manifold and I can get some serious sand blasting done even... Since I have to give up Powder coating, I could probably take a loss and lose one of them now... Pacemakers don't like the 100kv power exposure, and Doctors tell me no more anything with high voltage. I can't weld anymore either. Shooting off my left shoulder is outta the question as well (That one didn't even have to be said, but they told me anyway...) I'm starting to fall apart at 56...You've been falling apart longer so Maybe I can get some pointers as I come undone. You seem to have a great disposition and positive attitude toward life as you approach your life's goals and issues. I hope to keep myself on a similar track. |
Re: What have you been doing during lockdown
Scott, celebrate every day like is your birthday, I've been doing that for almost 3 years now, even if I feel miserable I try to force myself to do something, last Saturday I was sicker than I've been in years, my wife says I worked myself sick, I can't remember that last time I vomited, I know it's been at least 12 or 13 years ago, and that may have been from drinking to much
As for birthdays, January 2nd was my 2nd 20th birthday (20 years since my mom gave me one of her kidneys) April 20th is gonna be my 3rd 15th birthday (pancreas transplant) my wife says I'm not special enough to get anything other than a kick in the ass, but hey, it keeps me moving As of October 9th I have been off all pain pills, I did finally get me a marijuana card, that really helps the most, pretty sure that's what makes it easier to sleep, eat and keep me motivated, I've been cooking a lot too Today I picked up a Harbor Freight compressor pump, it was half off, it's for my big compressor I was given a couple years ago, 60 gallon tank but the pump was shot, all original was manufactured in 1946, I got this https://www.harborfreight.com/145-ps...ump-67698.html I just need to buy a different tube/hose to connect it to the tank, it has a 3/4 or 1 inch tube, my original one is 5/8, hopefully I can just buy an adapter to hook it up, I'll find out tomorrow I strapped the fuel tank on the back of the Volksrod hooked up the battery, jumped the starter and it fired right up, moved it and now I have room :dancing: The funny part about it is my oldest son lives a few miles away, my wife called him this morning to help me move the Eldo, his daily driver wouldn't start, she was gonna tease him and say well the Volksrod was in 3 pieces and hasn't run since June, and it fired right up, she didn't because she didn't wanna ruin his day https://i.vgy.me/tvDvnk.jpg The cutting shall begin soon :sawzall: Ron |
