Well, I guess it is sort of a Volksrod.

A really ‘Smooth’ one.

Bugula March 12th, 2020 01:51 PM

Re: New Beetle volksrod

Yeah, kinda fugly. Not sure it was featured in an episode.

Re: New Beetle volksrod

Yeah... since they're running what appears to be "maypops" on the front... I'll buy the Volksrods moniker...

Re: New Beetle volksrod

Oh God! :yelling: It looks like Beelzebub's ballsack to me. No two lines or proportions go together.

Re: New Beetle volksrod

Well, at least it’s consistent. And the bug being ‘different’ fits in with our Volks Rods group.

Re: New Beetle volksrod

Last week I came out of the local coffee shop and a couple of guys were walking around the Single Cab. One had been looking underneath where the Ford oil pan and truck gearbox were clearly visible. I nodded when the older of the two asked if it was mine. Then he tossed out, “This isn’t a real VW anymore.”
I answered with a grin, “Thank you.”
The younger guy looked at his friend and laughed.

Let's revamp that well known old saying and change just one word. "There ain't no cure for purists ."

The rear view is kinda ok. The show aired last night.

Need to jack that back end up at least another 3 inches and put some slightly bigger rear tires on it.. hardly has any rake the way it sits right now.. or maybe that's just an illusion caused by the grass..

Also needs a shifter that sticks out above the windshield ;P

Re: New Beetle volksrod

Side profile is horrible. It has a beak.

V8Transporter April 22nd, 2020 04:03 PM

Re: New Beetle volksrod

Looks like you check rear tire to fender clearance with a feeler gauge. I agree with a taller shifter. It would add ‘character.’

Also started with a new Beetle.

Re: New Beetle volksrod

I think the headlights needed to be closer to the body and bigger. Also, they sould have followed the hood shape fornthe nose, not added width. I think with a few more cues, it could have been better than meh....

V8Transporter April 22nd, 2020 06:41 PM

Re: New Beetle volksrod

Whoops, a closer look and I can see that there is no rear fender.
I agree that bigger headlights would help.

V8Transporter April 22nd, 2020 07:27 PM

Re: New Beetle volksrod

How ‘bout lights in the hood like an old ‘Bug Eye Sprite?’

Bugula April 23rd, 2020 04:11 AM

Re: New Beetle volksrod

They settled on the headlights. The junkyard didn’t have two of the large ones.

Diggin the Zen Coupe there... That's a helluva good start.

I can't get on board with this one. Don't get me wrong. I like when people make some weird cars, but this doesn't look right. It's like when car companies release new modern versions of vintage models. Never quite does the brand justice.

V8Transporter May 8th, 2020 09:28 AM

Re: New Beetle volksrod

Yeah, I’m trying to be positive, but you have a good point. Maybe it looks better in person?

DrHax May 8th, 2020 10:47 AM

Re: New Beetle volksrod

The main issue I feel are that that headlights are too small and the hood is too smooth. With a typical old school bug you have that distinctive shape in the sheet metal if it had that rolled into the metal and bigger headlights that were lower to the ground I think it’d look better. The proportions are off.

But I want to see how much it looks like a snail with the top up! Is it called the S-car? Because look at that S Car go!

Re: New Beetle volksrod

That thing looks like a "transformer' insect. I guess at least they tried.

Bugula May 9th, 2020 12:18 PM

Re: New Beetle volksrod

Maybe a cut up aircooled beetle hood would have looked cool

Or an extended wheelbase, or.... no
