Volksrodder Meals - real recipes for cutters, welders, and drivers
It occurred to me that we've had beer threads for when you get thirsty, but no thread for what to do if you're HONGRY (in a hurry and not wanting to spend much).
I'll start this thread with a simple one-dish meal we enjoy fairly frequently: "Doc Nugent's vinegar/beef/bean thing"
What else is fast, cheap, and filling? |

Doc
I'm so hungry and at the office. That was very uncool man. Time to eat lunch after that and it's 4pm. :sigh: |
Re: Volksrodder Meals - real recipes for cutters, welders, and drivers
I discovered something the other night when I was throwing together what I had in the fridge/ cupboard.
Its like a pesto, sausage, penne noodle thing. 2 packs of pesto mix, 1 lb of polish or smoked sausage cut into bit size peices, and 1 lb of penne noodles boiled. It tastes hella good. Now I am an offical homo putting a recipe on a public forum. Hehehe |

1. Mix one cup soy sauce, with 1 cup water in a large tupperware tray...or one of those empty giant icecream buckets work well...hal 2. mix in 1 cup brown sugar and a few big tablespoons of minced garlic. 3. Stir all the ingredients well until all are mixed together and the brown sugar is dissolved (using hot water in step 1 helps) 4. take a flat of chicken breasts and put them in the mixture. shove em on in there, and make sure all the meat is covered by the sauce. seal the container with lid and let them soak over night in the fridge. 5. next day Q em up, goes well with some steamed rice and beer...but what doesn't go good with beer? |

Cover and let steam together. Add ins~ can of , your choice corn, black beans, hoppin john hot beans and juice mix (jalapenos included),even scramble some eggs in or anything else you might have in the cupboard. Re: Volksrodder Meals - real recipes for cutters, welders, and drivers
 Don't know if this applies to the in a hurry...but it makes a lot and is great for leftovers. I love it while watching football in the winter too.
You'll need a crock pot or large stew pan. "cowboy soup" First brown about 1-2 lbs. of ground beef then drain. add to crock pot or pan the: cooked ground beef 1 large can ranch style beans any of the following or all: canned corn, hominy, green beans 2 smaller cans Rotel (the tomatoes with peppers stuff) 1 or 2 pkgs taco seasoning 1 pkg powder ranch dip mix I don't drain any of the vegetables and usually add just a little more water. Heat in crockpot until hot enough for your taste. I like to eat mine over a bed of Fritos and smothered with some shredded cheddar cheese... good stuff...where's my Tums :hmm: Now you got me all HONGRY again...:funny: :funny: |
Re: Volksrodder Meals - real recipes for cutters, welders, and drivers
I was bored and called the wife at home for my recipe. Mix:
1/4 c soy sauce 1/4 c Worcestershire sauce 1/4 c Cayenne pepper sauce (you can use Tabaso but i prefer cayenne myself) 1/2 c minced garlic (not dried, stuff from the jar, or do your own) 1 t garlic powder 1 t onion powder 2 t black pepper 1 t chile powder 3 t salt 1/2 cup brown sugar Get about 4lbs of beef. I like to get steaks and roasts from the grocery store that are marked down because they are close to expiring. The more tender the cut, the more tender the jerky, but even chuck makes some pretty good jerky so don't be too picky. Just so you know, 5lbs of meat makes about a pound of jerky, shop accordingly. Trim as much of the fat and gristle off as possible, fat will go rancid in a few days if left on. Cut up beef in to thin strips, no more that 1/4" thick. I like to use a slicer and make little sheets of meat but you can use a sharp knife as well. HINT: Cut across the grain of the meat else it will be tough and stringy to pull chunks off. Dump in a big bowl and pour the mix over it. Get in there with your hands and mix it up really well. Once covered well, put it in a big ziplock bag, squeeze all the air out and toss it in the fridge for atleast 24 hours. If you have a dehydrator, put the meat in single layers on the trays, set to 150F and let run for at least 4-5 hours, checking it after about 3.5 hours. Remove that which is done so it doesn't get too dry and crappy and keep checking until all is done. Let cool well on paper towels. Do the same thing in an oven, just drape over the racks and use the same time and temps. Store in cool, dry place. Enjoy. |
Re: Volksrodder Meals - real recipes for cutters, welders, and drivers
flour tortillias warmed up in a pan and then put a little butter an peanut butter on it then fold into a triangle and eat. or take a flour tortillia and deep fry it in a shallow filled pan then take out and let sit on paper towels. then take cinnimon sugar and lightly sprinkle over all of it. the tortillias on this one need to be cut into smaller triangles to to work best.

Re: Volksrodder Meals - real recipes for cutters, welders, and drivers
here's another one, by hubby though~
now this is quick, he did this during his younger single years when he was a mich state football fan. big bag of corn chips, any kind will do, tortillas, round, whatever. Brown 1+lbs of hamburger. Large cookie sheet, spread out a layer of chips, sprinkle in some hamburger, a layer of cheese, your choice, I like cheddar. more chips, hamburger, cheese, top with your heat of salsa. Stick in oven just long enough to heat chips and melt cheese. Have extra sauce for add on, and pig out! I can tell, my shopping list for this weekend has changed already ! |
Re: Volksrodder Meals - real recipes for cutters, welders, and drivers
another one is butterfly cut porkchops flatten out slightly with meat tenderisor mallot and bread them in egg and bread crumbs. then fry up in butter in a pan. it takes alot of butter but real good. anyways after it is done cooking put some mayo on two peices of bread and eat like a sandwich. german style veiner schnitzle

Re: Volksrodder Meals - real recipes for cutters, welders, and drivers
cut up veleveeta cheese into cubes. takes rotell tomatoes and add to it. put in the microwave and melt it. take corn ships and enjoy. can also melt the cheese by sticking it into a homemade double boiler. basically one pan with water in it and the other pan with the cheese and rotell tomotoes in it and wait til melted.
