Welding tutorial

Don't know if it has been posted yet, but there is a realy good tutorial on Mig welding at http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/tutorial.htm

It has some nice videos as well and a pretty decent calculator for selecting wire speed based on metal thickness.

Re: Welding tutorial

The last welder I got was previously owned. Made the worst welds ever. So, I take a look-see. Solid carbon steel wire, nonsheilded tip, straight CO2, and reversed polarity. That's pretty much 4/4 things I switched. But after fixing the polarity, getting a tank of 72/25, a roll of mild steel wire and a shielding tip, it was 75% better. Turns out that cheap wire from Menards, despite being the "type" of wire I wanted, still falls into the "get-whatcha-pay-for" category.
In a nutshell, even if everything is "right," if your welds still look sub-par, before you blame your abilities, it may be something as simple as the brand of wire
