Ron, when you start doing aluminum stuff... you might want to try alodine or Alodizing... Turns Aluminum a nice gold color and is pretty good conversion coating... basically fast and easy and pretty easy to get a hold of the stuff too. Usually sold in a . powder or concentrate form and takes a minute or so of soak time to really put a nice protective coating on.Alodine options

I like the darker stuff for a richer look when using it. I have a piece in my garage that I Alodized almost 3o years ago and looks like it did when I performed the conversion. Was a Project in A&P school that allowed use of about 16 different processes including hand machining a block and drilling and tapping and using helicoil inserts and a couple of other fasteners and repairs.
