Lets say for instance you plan to narrow your beam 3". If you have the stock width beam already in the car you can take a 2" block of wood and a large mallet and hammer it down between the body and the shock towers. this will move the sheetmetal over enough to clear each side.

I know this doesnt help you much but if you go 3" you will only need to bend the sheetmetal only a little bit. if you have an additional stock width beam then do this.

Another option that might work is using a pipe clamp and it should pull the sections inwards enough by cranking.

or you could just cut out the section or even put 2 slices, one on each side and once its bent in weld in some wedges .......
