Default '78 Super Beetle Conv. Rat Rod...What do you think??

Is it possible?? (no fenders, front end extension, the works) OR should i just restore it and find something older... its not in that bad off shape, but would cutting it up be a waste of a car? (were these rare or anything?)

superbeetles have a strut front suspension, not a front beam like regular beetles. which means you cant run a bolt on front end extender on it...

It would look like ass. If your gonna try and rod it out leave the fenders on.The windshield is curved too so chopping it would be a pain in the ass..Sell it and get a standard bug(non super).

it looks like its in pretty decent shape from the pics. Those generally Fetch pretty big money. If you sold it for a decent price you could probably buy 3 junker standards and have enough shit to build a V-rod

The vrod look is cool looking. but unless you have bucks or good fab skills, they are rough riding. That fat vert would make a nice german look ride. they are low and wide. depending on your choice of struts and all. you could have a nice daily driver. and topless when you need it.

or sell it and go hard core!

heres a tread about a doing a front end extension on a Super.

http://www.volksrods.com/forum/showt...r+beetle+front

I pm Bugroadster about the ones hes working on a couple of mouths ago. He said he was getting to the final stages of building it. It will use a ball joint front end and have a 8" extension. Already said I want one. There a few Super on here thats running without fenders with the struts. I say go for it man.

If the paints not hiding serious rot that can fetch a decent amount, especially on this coast

You should be able to sell it and get one or two standards that you can cut up and achieve the look you're going for, like bswilly said

I see rot around the window frame and the bottom of the door. Not too prommising if you were expecting big money for it. BUT..... most verts need rust repair anyways so if you do decide to sell it, the right person will know what to expect and be willing to spend the time and money on repairs.

Find a cheap ass standard bug and do what you want with it.

Good luck man.

Personally, I think it's hard to make a super volksrod look good. I would give that super what's known as the german look (black trim, bumpers same color as car body, lowered with oversized wheels), like so.

Or just sell it, like mentioned, and get a standard to work with if you're dead set on a volkrod.

Well I am sure Hal agrees, a ratrod super can look pretty damn good!

The curved windshield makes it a bit harder to pull off IMO, but hell, it can be done!

thanks Rob, i do like my car , it handles great, looks cool to me , and is a lot of fun.if every one liked the same thing , there would be a lot of ,chopped, flat black, red wheeled, white walled, extended cars out there.
Or we could become v-rod purist, and ban fat chicks , and supers.

I like the supers(aka fat chicks) for that euro look. Low, wide, road race looking shit. You got a good canvas, maybe not for v-rod, so to speak, but hell if its not what you want, get what you do want or youll never be happy with it.

Hey Steve, how about some pics/info on your front suspension ? Can't tell much from this photo. Have you already got something out there that I missed when trying to do a search ?

just plate steel welded to the framehead and angle and a plate to make a channel for the front spring, people make it to be a very hard thing to do, all i used was a sawzall, 140 amp Mig w/gas, and an angle finder.
Engineering at its best
One more thing is that i made it too low in the front and i had to cut the bottom of the framehead out and put some 2x4 square frame tubing in to raise the bottom up, but it still scrubs alot, which i recommend doing even if its not low.
here are some pics:
