After working day and night the last week I finally got the the pickup up and running. It runs real bad at low rpm but blows my head off att with full trottle.. Full gas, lirking in first gear, letting go of the clutch... the car slightly lifts one front wheel and goes off like a rocket... feels like i reached an important goal with this car. I didn't have the time to test the top speed but with half gas om 4:th gear the speedometer is in bottom... That -79 bus gearbox works real nice with the H78 diagonals in the back, something I recomend to all of yours projects. I also painted white flames on it last friday night, real fun and not as hard as i thoght it would be. Now I just have to adjust the engine so it runs a bit better before I get the car streetlegal. Buy the way, my old volksrod with 1500cc engine feels real lame driving, to this car.
Thanks for the support! -Tobias

Tobias

Are you runing a 2.0 L type 4 engine? I see you must be running a progressive weber type carb. What are the basic specs on your engine. Like stock 1.8, stock cam or Web cam and that kind of stuff.

Verrrrrrrry Nice bro'

Oh also, are you going to do anything special to get outside air for cooling or carb fresh air.

not so, grasshopper :) i've run them on some pretty stout sports cars and also seen them on some high hp american iron. they don't like potholes or curbs but i've never seen one fail from torque alone. i'm sure a fuel dragster could wrap one up but i wouldn't be afraid of anything under 300 hp. of course i'm referring to a modern wheel with at least 40 spokes. an old model a wheel probably couldn't take much over 100 hp.

The rod is an artwork. Pure sex on wheels. Well done.

Sorry to interupt your conversion that you are in but I'm a new member on this site and this is my first time I have replied a topic. Hey! That once bare metal bug truck has finally ben painted primer black with white flames. I seen lots of pictures of that VW Truck in bare metal and I was worried that it may rust.
All right back to your conversion. I'll introduce myself later in time.

Well, thats the basic specs on the engine... I dont know much bout how to build a engine but this is that I could afford. mostly junkparts... Now I I'll try to find someone to adjust the carb in time for swedich hot rod reunion... So I cant race the "real" hot rodders.... Right now theres not going to be a #3.. but my spec for it is: type 1 -48 body chopped and shorted, chaneled over a type 3 1500s -64 pan with corvair engine. Why and how you can figure out by yourself. (what are your dream specs for a volksrod by the way?)

AWESOME tobias. youv'e got me thinking real hard about putting a bed on my bug. i do have a couple of questions.
1.what are you using for the back glass opening and the glass itself? is it lexan or is it a factory piece out of something?
2. what guage steel is the back of the cab, and the bed itself?
3.is the bed welded to the bug body?
4.the frame that supports the bed, how is it attached to the pan/suspension?
5.what do you think it'll run in the 1/4 with that tuype 4?
sorry for so many questions. i've just never seen a bug/truck like yours. and if i do decide to go the truck route, i promise i won't make it JUST like yours. thanks, john
