Default removing ignition switch

i am trying to remove the ignition switch out of my 67. it is the type mounted to the steering column. i have removed the bracket /terminal in the back of the switch and turned it with key to line up the "thingy" with hole but cant or figure out what/where the retainer is keeping it from sliding out. so, i was gonna remove the whole bracket and it has these bolts that dont have a head at the end. i am sure i can drill it, i guess. but that doesnt seem to be the right way. is the half a circle i am looking at a cap? this other pic i found shows the bolts with a square head. i was wondering if that was under the"cap". if i drill it i will need replacement bolts. these bolts in question screw into a bracket under the hood.
hook me up with some more of the volksrodders vast collection of knowledge.

might be a small hole on the side of the bracket it sits in to push on a spring lock to remove once it is aligned..

In a few of my catalogs they have a switch removal tool. Not sure if you need one or not, or if you can remove the tumbler without messin' some s#$% up or not. All my former vw's were pre-modified and didn't use the column iggy switch.
