Default Putting an early windshield in a late body
Re:: I saw this on here somewhere?

Ok, So I swear I read a thread and pics of someone who had grafted in an early style windshield and front roof section into a later top/body?

I've been searching and cant find it now? Any one got any info on it?

I got a 73 body, Got a 68ish hard sunroof top, picked up a 54 oval rear clip, and might possibly be able to get a 55 front roof and dash clip.

Sure would have been easier to start with an early body to begin with LOL

Thanks for any help!

The windshield and upper cowl was swapped out in bulldog's choptop. It was done before it came over to my place, so I don't have any pics.

You will need earlier doors and rear quarter window openings as well. The larger door and rear windows of the late model will look out of proportion with a early windshield swap. Are you planing a chop? Then it wont matter...Not trying to be a pain in the ass but it would suck to do all of that work and be pissed because the lines look all fubar'd...Great idea to work with what you have!

Cant wait to see the build thread...Rich

I'm def chopping it! It would be alot of wasted work to do it if I didnt chop it in my opinion too! Wouldnt look right.

I don't think that's true Rich. However, I'm not sure if you mean that if you change the windshield and rear window and leave the quarters and doors alone on a non chopped car or if you are saying this in regards to a chopped car as well. My side windows are hardly even noticeable that they aren't early since the roof is chopped and I've got the oval and early windshield in mine. It changed the whole look and made it even better. Of course I'd prefer the early body but when I started my volksrod I didn't know one body from another so it didn't really matter to begin with. But I'd have preferred at this point to have had an early body to do everything on. So much easier than back tracking. Anyway, I'm happy with having the early front and rear with late sides on my chop.

I used to think that about putting an oval in a late model till my friend Jay did it last fall. I never thought the ovals looked right when you'd look at it from a rear 3 quarter view but it's actually pretty decent. Not sure I'd give in to the early windshield on an unchopped late but who knows. Anything can work if it's done right. But for now I'm with you on the unchopped version but then again, I don't really like late models to begin with...ha ha!

You could do as I did to the Kidvrod front roof section and windshield area.
The body for that one was based on a 74 standard. I just cut the upper edge from an other body and welded it 30mm lower than the original.
Then filled the 4inches of the front roof with, in this case original Splitwindow roof section that remained from when I cut the roof off the Hebster but any slightly rounded sheetmetal works just fine.
