Intro de la Pancho

long time lurker, first time poster. my name is chuck, i live in arlington texas with my wife and three kids. own a couple of volkswagens- had 'em my whole life. owned some good ones and some bad ones.

currently own 59 bug (all original 6 volt, original motor, crash box transmission). 67 race bug (plastic seat, gutted, aluminum door panels, 1641 cc motor, runs 9.6 at 75 mph in the 1/8th mile, 15.6 at 90 something in the 1/4 mile, and working on putting a 2276 cc in it, just got a set of spindle mount front rims to take the brakes off and lighten the front end up, race for the tvwdra in the dfw metroplex- tvdrwa.org). current project is a 64 karman ghia that i bought from a friend of mine in my car club, the Dallas Aircoolers. he lowered it and did all the mechanical and brakes (rough body, bad pans, big bore 40 horse with a single barrel weber carb, 2 inch narrowed beam, fixing it up to sell it).

well..... i am still working on this intro. i am learning how to post pics. so i can get some progress shots going.

the race car has changed a little sense that pict. was taken. chrome bigs and little's. new pict. to come. i picked up a sponsor and have some advertising on the nose now.

the ghia is my current project. this thread will be mostly about it.

this is what the engine looked like when i bought the car

the p.o. rebuilt the motor but did a shabby job on the tin- didn't fit, didn't match. i tore the top end of the motor down and put matching 40 horse tin on it. retightened everything and put her back together. texas flag baby.

i rolled it with this steering wheel and shift knob for a while. added the crown royal bag but don't drink it.

O.K. the tail of the car has a grafted on 68 ghia rear end. there is so much bondo on the back of the car that i sunk the tail lights and turn signals into the bondo. i have a set of type 3 squareback tail light housings that i am going to graft onto the fenders. i want to set them farther back than the ghia tail lights were factory. the rest of the car is perfect. no dings or dents. if you look close to the fenders you can see the brazing where someone attached the rear of the car. in 68 v.w. put reflectors on the back of the fenders behind the wheel. that is what those circles are on the fenders.

well this pict. posting and what knot is frustrating for me so here is just another pict. of the ghia. car club pict. from a meeting. the bay single cab is a buddy of mine who also is on my drag race team. we have the same major sponser a local v.w. shop. lone star beer and good times.

i am a motor guy. i like a clean motor. my grandfather made me that way. my father was the same way. we all have had clean motors. this is the way she looks now.

my daily ride. 03 passat wagon. i want 17 inch audi wheels. its the 1.8 turbo stock. i also want to put the audi nose badge on as well.
