Hi all, been a while for an update. Been busy finishing up work for the year and getting back from vacation, so progress has been slow. The framework is painted as is the front clip. There are new lower inner fenders and a repaired bulkhead.

Also, one of my right hand men and I put the roof on this weekend.

He was on that roof and countersunk 100 holes, we were having a good time even though it was 25 deg. yesterday.

Today I attached some marine grade vinyl We got from the fabric store. It is UV protected and should be real durable for us. The pics don't show it but it is a nice beige color.

Thanks for looking, hope you guys like it.

Later, Scott

Scott, Thanks, yeah the goal is to have it done for Campbelltown. It would be fitting since I bought the car from a guy about a mile from there. If not it will definately be done for York Sizzle. That show is 5 minutes from my house, so even if I have to tow it there, we'll be there. It will be nice to meet some of you guys in person and see your cars.
Later, Scott

I am looking around at the background in your pics. I can tell a real Volksrodeer. out in your driveway with your car cut in 1/2!! At least you have a piece of concrete to work on.
When I am at home my workshop is extension cords and cardboard. If it is not too windy I get out my tarp.

No kidding. I'm starting to develop scales and gills. My yard is a damn mess with all of hte wet leaves I still haven't raked up and I can't get the bus under my carport or backed into my garage far enough because of the high top to get the motor out of it.

Well, the rain stopped and Christmas day has come and gone and I got some time to work on the Bug and one big present for myself came.

Tinebeater's extension showed up Saturday via FedEx, dang, I wish that guy would learn how to weld. Holy crow is that thing nice.

Anyway, we got that painted up and while the paint was drying, my oldest son and I started working on inner panles for the rear and the firewall area. Today I got the extender bolted on and the old beam in place for a mock-up.

Me likey!

More work on the Bug this weekend. The inner door panels are done, the steering wheel is repainted, new pedal assembly came and is painted, and next we will finish painting the floor, installing pedals, cables, brake lines, fixing steering, rebuilding brakes, and on, and on, and on.

I keep thinking, "what did I get myself into?", but the end result will be worth it I'm sure.

Here are a couple of pictures of the interior:

Really good looking, nice work. Not sure I remember reading it anywhere in the post but you can use wood veneers to cover any metal you don't want to see. Really thin and easy to work with. Just a little steam will get it to bend well, glue it in place and finish it.

That's a great idea. I was thinking of covering all the metal but now that we have started to add the wood I kinda like seeing a combination of both wood and metal. But like everything else, I will probably change my mind 47,852 times before the project is done.

Thanks for the kind wrods also. It helps keep the motivation up!

Well work on the car has been slow, but the boys and I have been able to get a little bit of work done. We got the hood fitted and painted. There is a newly rebuilt pedal cluster and the shifter has been painted and bent to fit under the lowered dash. The seats were painted and the seat backs were narrowed 2 inches to fit. There is also new upholstery for the seats (thanks Mom). Finally, we got wood trim finished and installed around the roof.

I guess we got more done than I thought. Next, we will install the newly rebuilt adjustable beam, rebuilt the steering and take care of the brakes.

Let me know what you think.

Are these just the stock seat frames with the springs and covers removed, they look cool.

Yeah, the bottoms are stock frames with the springs removed with some 3/4" plywood and foam padding added. The front clip is channeled 2" over the chassis and the windshield is chopped 2" so taking the springs off gives enough head room. The backs started out stock but the body is narrower now and the doors didn't close, so there is 2" cut out of the middle of the frame to narrow them. Then that attachment points were cut off and moved up to the top tube on the seat bottom, and the knobs for the "recliner" were removed too so the doors will close. So at first glance the seat back look stock but they are modified a bit so the doors will close. But if they look stock that's great because that is the look we were going for.

This is very kool! I always wanted to do a woody too (and about 10,000 other things) but this is pretty much the way I have it in my screwed up head.

Great job keep the pic's coming and keep working on it!
