Don't hold your breath Hax. These bits don't come cheap. I was after a set Of Burley glass for years before I finally made contact with a guy back east who wanted a reasonable price. Then waited another 6 months until he came out to visit his daughter in Denver and met up with him at the Volkswagens on the Green meet in order to save the (high) cost of shipping. Still looking for an affordale grille, but may just have to fabricate that myself.

A '32 grill? I think I have an original on the wall of my shop hanging over my Worlds Fastest Indian poster. Outer 'ring is stainless, in nice shape, with mounting holes in the sides, and the somewhat ornate hole for the hand crank in the bottom. Overall height is 27 5/8", width is 17 1/2". It's slightly convex. Vertical pieces look to be silver painted mild steel, with the center ones covering just under 3" painted blue. These are slightly corroded but no serious rust. I think a light glass bead blast would clean them up. All are there and straight. I'm guessing the weight at about ten pounds.
I'm off to a job, but PM me you're e-mail address and I'll see about getting you a photo.

Okay, another little detail. The grill insert tapers slightly at the top. The widest point at the bottom is 17", while at the upper end just below the curve at the sides, it's 16."

I keep looking at those 40 Ford conversion hoods too. I've seen a few at swap meets but always a little too much money for me without knowing how it would match up to the inner fenders. Plus I'm not sure if they fit all the bugs or not. At Lansing there was one but he said it was off a late model.

Lost & Found

The first Volks Rod surfaced last year and is currently being "lightly" refined with BFG Radial TA's. The car is "exactly" in the condition when sold 36 years ago with the exception a 1963 Porsche 356 engine has been installed along with a set of functioning Thunderbird Exhaust side pipes.

The car will be driven from Utah to Las Vegas to participate at the Bug-O-Rama early October.

See you on the road...............

Burly

Default Volks Rod #1 History

Watch your newsstand for the just being released January 2016 issue of Hot VW's Magazine for a complete, detailed story on the first Volks Rod.
