I guess we now move on to, "Is it done yet?"

Um, actually I'm in to my 44th year of getting the Single Cab just right. I believe that I fall into the, "Well, is it sorta pretty close to being finally done?" category. I mean, it is the journey, right?

Yup. But a month or so back, in spite of an additive I use, the interesting gas out here turned to jelly in the carb. She was down for a week, while I also did a tune up.. Back on the road, the turn signals just quit, so I'm using hand signals until that's straightened out, in my 'spare time.' Then two weeks back the many-year-old-ballast resistor apparently overheated and she quit with a load of lumber for a deck repair. Restarted after cooling off. A new resistor went in Saturday.
The original swap to the V8 from a Corvair powertrain took roughly two years. Like they say, "life gets in the way." The Corvair swap done about five years earlier, in '74, took about six months.
As a wise neighbor told me back when I was fifteen and adapting a nailhead Buick into a '47 Ford coupe. "There's always something. And if there's not something, you're just not paying attention...because there is always something."
I do this sort of thing because it's fun, a challenge and I meet some great folks along the way. The people on this site, for example.

I would think 1/8" tolerance for anything body/pan related on a VW would be outstanding! It's a pretty tall order to manufacture specialty parts that will fit several year model cars that are 30-50 years old and that have been worked on and modified by the cheapest shadetree mechanics known to man.

There you go. Think of it as .125" and it seems much closer.

I'm holding off on further shenanigans until I get a plan. I was wanting to run BFGs on it, 155/80s up front and 215/70s on the back. But nobody has the 155s in stock. Even Summit says it'll take a month to get them.

With all the new parts and no tires at all right now, I think I'm gonna wait till I get the whole front end mocked up. Then see what tires I NEED.
