Default Yeah, I fucking did that...!

I know it's been quite a while, and no, I'm no further on any of my multiple projects.

In January I was still rated at 10% disabled through the VA. By the end of February I was rated at 20%. And buy the end of March I was rated at 80% disabled... So yeah, life, staying up for days on end banging shit out, working through pneumonia and double pneumonia has finally caught up with me. I now have degenerative arthritis in my lower spine, degenerative arthritis and impingement in both hips, tiniest in both ears, hearing aids in both ears, and I use a cane because the sciatic nerve in my left leg is pinching off. I have all but three symptoms of PTSD, which now has them questioning if I received a TBI due to incidents reported while I was still in the service. Other than that, I have been given several MRI's and CT scans due to suspected early asbestosis.

So yeah, I haven't been in the shop much. I have been doing things though. I have been working to help other veterans. I have become very active with veteran suicide prevention and counseling. I've been able to help a few veterans find employment and I have even helped a homeless Vietnam veteran get his life back on track with a new home, job, and outlook on life.

Most recently though, I created a law.

Yeah!

Me!

I wrote a letter to my State Representative concerning Stolen Valor and the lack of law at the state level, and that letter resulted in new legislation that can be enforcement ed by local, county, and state police. For those of you who don't know, stolen valour is the act of impersonating a veteran or active member of the military, or falsely claiming or wearing medals, ribbons, or awards that were not earned, or falsely recieving monetary gains from such actions. To some, this doesn't mean a thing, but to to 2% of Americans who sign their names on that blank check payable to the United States for an amount upto and including their life, it means a hell of a lot.

So yeah, this is when I went to the State Capitol and the governor signed my bill into law. Those of you who don't know, that's Thump, Beau, and Guss in blue just left of Governor Mary Fallon (right of picture), Jamie behind them, and myself behind and right of Guss.

Go figure, a volksrodder MAKING laws for a change instead of breaking them...

Hey Ray,
What are you doing for your degen lower back? My wife is suffering form degen disks L5S1.
I've had several military (current and former) students and several have PTSD. I've found that working with them is a little different than an average student. Many of them I have to talk to them like how I talk to you guys. Maybe a bit harsher/ raw and funny but supportive. They were some of my best students as they knew what odds they had going against them and they usually overcompensated and really threw some great work on the table.
Great work on the law amigo!!!!!

(And this is just because you're a Volksrodder )

Pretty Awesome Achievement, Causing law to be created. More awesome that it is for a Noble reason (in my opinion). Thanks for all you've done and for serving us all who did not serve... and those who have. Don't think it doesn't get noticed... And It is Highly appreciated by those of us who think above average levels. So many just have no idea... and don't take the time to learn what it takes to be a Volunteer in our Military Forces.

Great looking bunch you have there, Ray Dean. Carry on. (The projects will wait till you get to them if you can at all)

Thanks brother! I was diagnosed with PTS in '83 when at the urging of Sherrie, I finally saw someone at the VA. Back then, the doc referred me to a free group therapy...that was about it.
When Obama became president, things changed. He cut loose millions to the VA that the previous administration had been holding back. Very soon after that, I received a phone call from the VA and within a year of interviews..etc..began receiving a 30% disability for PTS and tinnitus, later upgraded to 70%.
So, thank you for standing up for us.

For my shoulder and back I take powered ginger. It's a natural anti-inflammatory, is cheap at the health food stores, and as far as I can tell, has no side effects. It takes a couple of weeks to get into your system, and has really helped me with the pain. I mix a quarter tea spoon into hot tea once a day.

As an 80% disabled Vet I understand and appreciate all you have done. Just a few weeks ago I was able to watch my oldest boy raise his arm and swear in as a third generation Army man. Keep up the good work, and yes I would buy a Veteran Volksrods T-Shirt.

My wife is going to try the ginger thing you mentioned. She has DDD in L5 and L4. Hopefully it helps!

(By the way, they don't prescribe Viagra for PTS!)

That's very cool about the law , I once met a guy who said he was a vet wearing all the bling (sorry, figured that purty much covered everything you mentioned), then a few weeks later I was told he's a world class faker about everything he says about himself, I think people like that need to be force fed everything nasty, does that make me mean

I know what ya mean about all the aches & pains, I was told I was 15% partial permanent disabled at 22 from 2 seperate back injury accidents at 17 & 19, I have 5 discs that are purty much completely gone, I was told I needed a double hip replacement at 31, then diagnosed with osteoarthritis at 32, I prolly have some form PTSD from all the health issues I've gone thru over the last 17 years, I should probably see someone about it, but my wife does a fantastic job of helping me deal with it all, I try to keep myself as busy as possible so I don't think about it, altho for the most of this year I've been doing less working & more sitting around, but I try to keep my mind busy to compensate for not physically doing things, it works

Ya know, I'm gonna hafta give that powdered ginger a try, I've tried all kinds of different stuff, including WD40 on my hands, knees & ankles, I only use it if I'm gonna be out working, I use Aspercream the rest of the time, I prefer natural stuff because I take enough flipping pills as it is
