Made some progress today... Got the seat narrowed, ended up with the center console being just a few inches wide, it's just an armrest now!
Looks like I'll have to build cup holders elsewhere! ...

Thumbs up Re: Rising from the ashes......

Took a break from the Vrod, to gain some much needed shade, and weather protection!
Expanded my tiny shop a little with some carport areas!

More parts orders today for the Vrod, hope to start back into it this week!

I was delivered a letter from my HR rep Thurs, stating that due to my recent medical issues, I am no longer required in their employment......I traveled about 80% in that role, and I'm severely limited in travel now.... I can see their thinking, But it was a smack to hear...
The letter was scripted straight from the ADA law, showing how it's legal for them to do this...

Looks like I have time to take some proper welding classes now, and plenty of Vrod building time! Woohoo!!

God is Good, a new adventure begins!

I'm glad you're seeing the dismissal from your job as the beginning of a "new adventure." I admire your positive attitude and look forward to further V-rod adventures!

I'm surprised they haven't cut me from my job due to limitations... Mine are physical limitations... not completely medical. Getting older means not picking up 250 pound blowers and engines any more... I just can't do it any longer. They have a fork lift that keeps me employed (I guess), but they're very production oriented. They have a minimum 5.5 hours billable on me now... (average), so some days I pour out 8-10 hours or more billable, other days I can only muster 1 or 2 hours with the available work...

I hope your new found time has enough funds to make it enjoyable. Mine would put me in a fire sale mode. We kind of expect to see some pics though...

Question Re: Rising from the ashes......

I am in need of a couple solid bug doors.... I plan to use them for the rear of the cab, in order to maintain the body line around the cab.
Anyone in the East TN area have a lead for me? CL is a bust at this point....samba is a bust as well....
I am in SE GA this week, and will be traveling back north via Macon and ATL, if anyone is along that route...

Well, my search for doors yielded me This!

Solid '63 shell, with 4tab hood(I guess that's a big deal?), and gas tank!
This was a Much better deal than the closest pair of doors I found.....

Now, do I body swap and chop this one into a pickup, Or cut on this one to repair the '71 body?..... Hmmmm........ I may just get it driving as a sedan, and convert to RPU later....?? Decisions, decisions!

I also picked up paint supplies for the wheels and accent pieces! Hope to get them shot this month!

If you're gonna cut the early body anyway, just use it instead. Early>late

That makes most sense, Cretin.... Saves me from having to contend with the heat warped sheetmetal on the later body.

Got some big progress today! Spent a couple hrs and gave the kiddos some wrenches and let them at it! Got the body off the pan, and the rest of the glass debris and charred junk vacuumed off the pan!
Measured the bed sides as well, and decided on 50.5" overall length!

I'm glad we are doing the body swap, as I found this '71 body has a lot of "repair" work on the rockers and wheel wells... The '63 body is Much more solid!

It's been slow going this summer.... I'm nowhere near where I wanted to be on this build....
It appears I'm going to Overdue this one! Just got the pan back from blasting! All clean, and ready for some minor repair and then Master Series!
I'll be building a low profile subframe to keep the body from sagging. Going to use rectangle tube and follow the outside edge of the pan, as well as some cross bars where the seat will mount. I don't want this thing to get sloppy in the doors. I'll also be adding some very style gussets in the door jambs..

And my super safe riggin', to get access to the underside! 😒

I've alway heard of sand getting Everywhere during a blast, but WOw! I busted out the car dryer(leaf blower) and went to town on this thing for a good 1/2 hour....

No real action on the RPU, aside from priming the pan, and seam sealing where the PO replaced pans but didn't seal..... hoping to get the Master Series on this week, then store it until our funds settle down... being out of work, still having medical issues, surgery, etc, is putting a damper on fun funds....😔

Whoa! Almost 3 months since last progress.... yeah, it's been a tough time 'round here....
Anyway, I got the first coat of Master Series on the top side of the pan yesterday! It was a bit humid out(and 70*), so the paint started setting up quick, and didn't flow as well as I'd liked, but as a base coat it'll do! I think I'm gonna do the whole thing in this paint, I just Love the raw metal appearance!

Next is pull the beam and get the bottom side coated, then the brace and extender painted and installed! Hope these 60*+ days hang on for a while! It's great for progress!

Happy New Year y'all!

Good to see you back at it! The "bare look' of the pan is slick.

Got the beam pulled off today. Woohoo! Motivation is coming back to me!

Well, slow but steady is the tempo of this build....
I got the extender and brace painted and installed, and the underside of pan bed lined.
