Coming full circle
I sold everything I had a few years ago when life just stalled. Lost both Mom and Dad within 14 months of each other. Wife lost her Mom shortly after that. Always doing a search for another VW project but never pulling the trigger. Well about a month ago I was searching with the intent of building my dream Volksrod. Now I know what I wanted to build, 8in ext , lowered, flat black, early model bug. Well this bug showed up and it was like this guy got my wish list and built my car!!! Two hour drive to see it and talk with the guy, and two hours home. A week goes by and I cant get it out of my head, so I pulled the trigger. I know "build not buy" has been my motto but when 90% is what you were going to build, is done, I could not pass on it. 1835 dual port, Freeway Flyer trans, runs like a scalded dog. I am back and my neighbors hate me again Missed you guys. Attachment 38434Attachment 38434

Re: Coming full circle
Thanks v8, Jeff. I feel all warm and fuzzy now.
Just a few things to do to make it run better and add a few personal touches.

Ain't that a good feeling, finding it the way you want it?
Mine was a total turd when I got it, but I could see a good car hiding in there somewhere. It ain't perfect, but it's perfect for me

Re: Coming full circle
Hit 2 shows this weekend. First was at a local speed shop, all muscle cars and restored classics. Lots of attention to my V Rod. Second was a Show and swap meet, every time we walked and could see it , there were people pointing and looking at the scoop and headlights. The muscle car guys really like it and everyone at the swap were just in awe and really wanted info on everything about it. Kinda cool for a Volksrod to get all that good attention. Now I gotta find the Volksrod plate from a few years ago and give it a place of honor.

Seems like every time I'm out I the driveway working on my junk, somebody stops to look and or talk about them. Everybody loves my fake Heb, even if they have no idea what it is

Re: Coming full circle
People just seem to have a connection with old VW's. Last week a yellow '72 bug pulled into our local gas station. I was on my old Sporty, but still walked over to say hi and BS a bit. When I left, someone else was talking to the driver.

Re: Coming full circle
Yep, everyone who came over to us had a VW story. Parents were saying "Slugbug" all day and kids just loved the size of it compared to all the land yachts there.

Re: Coming full circle
Yep that's it. Edelbrock 4 barrel with the scoop. Looks like a giant Hot Wheel. The Sidewinder exhaust sounds pretty goo too.
