Change of plans/ direction over here.
Been working on the Coyote chassis for a good long time, have a ton of hours into the design, but I'm fining too many loopholes in what I'm doing so I'm going to jump back and revise.
I have a 1964 pan with a shot front apron. The rest of the tunnel is solid. I'm going to convert the rear to IRS, then lob off the front. I'll be putting a Mustang II subframe and front suspension on. This will get the chassis to be a roller. I'll bolt up the Porsche tranny and Subie engine then put the body on to calc where I need to mod it. The hardest part is that I need to narrow the tunnel to allow the seats to be closer together. I'm 5'10", and even with the 3-4" pan drops, my head will still be close to the B pillar, but if I didn't move them in, I'd be looking square into the A pillar and getting half of my face blown apart in the wind.

Buying a new one or used?
I know used ones are getting tougher and tougher to find

You mean the front end? I'll just hit up Heidt's or Speedway for a kit. It's under $2k.

Yup that's what I was meaning, back when I started working on my V8 Bug I wanted to use a Mustang suspension on it, I left my phone number at one of the junkyards near by to call me when they got one in, hell that was 10 years ago, he said he has other guys ahead of me but if I got there first I could have it, he also said they are coming in fewer and farther between, I about fell over when he said $1000, by the time you replace the brake parts and everything else you can just about buy a new one, then my son's S10 got ass ended so I used the front suspension from it
Speaking about that Bug, I almost have my Eldorado cleaned off so I can trade places with them, my brother is moving across the street from his house, he has the factory headers from his Mustang GT in his garage so I will finally get it, I just need to bolt them on and fab the firewall, then finish welding everything, I'm gonna try to do a little work on it this winter

Did some math. I need to narrow the tunnel 3" for 24" of length to get the seats to fit properly. Going to lob off the front head and then get the IRS cups put in. 3rd set I've done too!

Lobbed off the front, started on the left IRS cup.

Not VR but had these resurfaced. Hopefully I can get this Impreza on the road soon so I can sell it to fund another VR build.

Wow, 4 valve OHC. Too bad you can't adapt 'em to an air cooled VW.

They are Subaru heads. I actually have a 98 Subaru EJ25 waiting for my VR build.

That's cool! Brian, the owner/operator of a bicycle shop a quarter mile or so from here, runs a Subaru engine in his Vanagon. It's his daily driver, shop van, and he swears by it.

I'm just in the planning stages right now. I bought a spare 98 Legacy Outback wagon for the lift bits for the Impreza and just to have some extra parts if my Legacy breaks. It is going to be a lot of work but worth it in the long run. I am also planning airbags.

Got the old chassis I built out from under the Coyote and started on the left IRS cup. Didn't realize how heavy I made stuff!

Mostly to keep it as a sports car and not a Sherman tank!

Got most of the left side ready for welding. Cut the right side to match but have to fit it tomorrow. Need to get this welded up before it gets below freezing. I'm already pushing it with welding in the 40's.

Been looking at my design for the Coyote. I was going to run the radiator up front but I got to thinking; this car isn't going to be raced, no SCCA, no land speed records; just a nice driver. So I think I'll just put the radiator behind the seats and the gas tank behind that. It'll save me routing 20 feet of coolant tubing and keeping things simpler. And if I want to change it, I can.
Heading out to weld...

IRS cups tacked in. Bolting up the arms tomorrow to mock stuff out. Need to make some fake shocks to hold the ride height.

Got the chassis in the shop somehow, under the Coyote frame and on jackstands. Bolted in the springplates (no bars for now) and got the arms on. Actually found the right socket for the lugnuts and got the wheels on. Need to get my temp fake shocks on to set the ride height. Have to clean the shop as I'm going to have sparks flying soon!:wel der:

Santa and his brown truck arrived yesterday. Brought the interior and upholstery for our T3. Since it's 24*F out, time to work in the basement.

Worked on the driver's seat yesterday and got the window crank rebolted, the door panel on and the start of the carpet going in.
Also found out my Mustang II front end is coming from Speedway next week!

Got mine running again yesterday. "Rebuilt" the Weber progressive about a week ago. Wasn't terrible, but did have some varnish in it from sitting. It has been messed with over the years, but it works for now.

Also finally got the steering situation under control. The P.O. had a horrible cobbled together 7" extension, so I replaced it with a proper 10" unit with a brace, and a steering kit from Fab 104.

Since the steering was so boogered up, the steering kit didn't quite fit. Was a little bit too short. So I cut the input shaft off the old steering box and made it fit in the steering shaft. Added the spherical bearing, and I'm good to go.

Drove it to the mailbox with only the ebrake. No stinger, just the header. Crazy loud. I was so happy to drive it again after like a year and a half.

And I installed my new hood ornament

You should see the rear. Driver's side is only attacked at the bottom. So only one shock, effectively, on the car. Had the wrong front wheel bearings. Old are 29mm id, new ones are 27mm. Oh well, driver's side front is missing the small spring. So I'll head up the road to Fisher Buggies Monday.

Before daylight savings time made me quit, I put the stinger back on, and took the front end adjusters back down. I love the look, but I know I'll die if I drive it like this daily.
