Default Thank you for speaking these words...

I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God

My thanks to all here who have served in our armed forces.
I attended our memorial day ceremony here at camp BlackHorse today.
as the captian spoke, all of us standing there in front of our flag at half mast...
the color guard presented colors as small arms fire rattled in the test pit.
I was overwhelmed with a feeling of privilage to work here with these american heros and a sense of history.
I wonder what the history books will say about what we are doing here?

I solemnly repeated that phrase for the Air Force in 1992. Thank you, Ray-Dean, for both the reminder and the picture.

The Boys and i went out to the Vet's cemetary today to pay respect and show support. This year we celebrated our Vietnam Vets. Very moving speach By a Ret. Marine CSM ..3 purple hearts, 1 in WW2,Korea and Vietnam! Several of our local WW2 heros, 100Inf Div. / 442 inf Reg. "go for broke" had just returned from D.C. where they were all presented with long over due medals...Always a big turn out here. Never a dry eye.

To all my comrades, I thank all of you who are serving now & I thank all of you who have served in the past.

I attended the Petaluma Veteran's Day Parade with my buddy Ron. It was chilly, rained off and on but we'd scored a ride in a WWII command car with a top that actually went up and kept most of the rain off us (!). Good crowd turnout, lots of "Thank You's!"

I went to Denny's this morning, got a free Grand Slam breakfast.
Wife and I took the Model T over to Grant's Pass, OR, where Applebees gave me a free Shrimp dinner.
Just got through eating my free Subway sandwich.
I had a copy of my DD214, but never had to show it.
Thanks to all who have remembered, and, more importantly, those who gave verything so I would have the opportunity to drive the Model T through some beautiful Fall scenery, and enjoy some quality time with my wife.

I was lucky and avoided service, although my class was the last required to have a draft card in 75.

Thanks for the reminder Ray-Dean!!!! Thanks to all of you who served and kept us safe over the years. I salute you all as well as a civilian can do. Without you guys and girls in the military we could not do what we do in this country. Freedom comes with a price, and that price deserves honor.

KC's Diner in nearby Windsor offered anything from their fine menu to vets, on the house. This is not a franchise business. The owners are super nice folks and the place was packed after a ceremony at the park across the street. I shook lots of hands and got a couple of hugs. Instead of attending the parade in Petaluma, I sat in the sun at the Veteran's Memorial in Santa Rosa and just kind of thought about things.

Welcome home to all my brother veterans.

I had a few vets over for dinner this evening, with a few non-vets that have younger kids. We were hoping to start a dialogue - but with the trampoline, cartoons, apple pie and cherry pie - we ended up letting the kids run around like we used to and we got caught up on some old times.

I did sneak a few photos of my Dad and Grandfather in uniform onto Facebook - that got a lot of laughs and smiles - which my Dad needed. All in all, great day to enjoy what we have with whom we have, in our own style that each of us has. Doesn't get too much better than that for a day that links so many families, communities and brothers.

Today I went to "17th Annual Tribute To Our Veterans" at the Santa Rosa Veteran's building.
This Luncheon put on by the Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs of Santa Rosa, and the first I've attended. There was a sizable turnout. A Color Guard, along with a local High School marching band was there. A local singer sang a touching acapella version of the national Anthem and America the Beautiful. The main speaker was a retired Major General.
I sat next to a Korean War vet and across for a former Marine who had served more than one 'deployment' in Afghanistan.
While acknowledging our service, a part of the General's speech touched on the Vietnam War, and how we were treated when we arrived "home." We Vietnam vets were asked to stand and the room broke out into applause. This being my first experience to a reaction of this kind, it was a bit emotional.
All in all a pretty great day!

Thank You for all Who are and have served this great country for our freedoms! The Veterans past and present are held in high regard in this household.

Always try to remember to thank a veteran when you see them no matter what time of the year. You just might be surprised with the stories you will hear.
