On another forum where I hang out we have a running post on some activity we did the day before related to our VW hobby. The idea is to inspire each other to do some small amount of work related our Volkswaqens... it could be just washing it taking a drive some where or some actual work you did. The intention is to only post VW related activities if you didn't do anything VW related then don't post.

Last Friday I installed the engine into the autostick. After installing it I found I had the wrong nut on the flex plate. The engine came back out and the nut replaced. The engine went back in. I bolted the flex plate to the torque converter and when I was tightening the last bolt the nut broke off the flex plate....

The engine had to come back out.

Tonight I got the bolt out of the broken nut and then removed the other three bolts. I pulled the engine out once again. Tomorrow I'll weld the nut back onto the flex plate.

Before anyone asks, Bentley says "Unbolt the flexplate from the torque converter or seal damage will occur when pulling the torque converter with the engine." Since there are no more seals in captivity I unbolted the flex plate.

"G"

You can see the torque converter and the flexplate in this photo, the bolt is already removed.

I can honestly say that I have been working on my rod for the last 5 days straight and almost have it ready to go back on wheels again. A major re-loop for the whole project made me de-construct everything I had previously done, and re-work it.

The chassis should be back on wheels by the weekend with the body re-work to follow after that and my new-and improved chop and sectioning.

It'll be cool. Trust me.

yesterday I transplanted a new rear apron on to the roadster project... got it all tacked up...

then this morning whilest not shaving and smokin a cigarette I looked and realized the damn thig was crooked... as well as the rain gutter area I put in last weekend for the extended 'hebmuller' decklid surround...

So today I cut all off again and started from scratch..
I actually figured out a neat way to do it this time using parts of an old set of rear fenders ... will post up the picks later when It's gettin finished.

i did some cleanup on the chassis to prepare for paint, also trial fitted the rear springplates and then decided to wait till i paint the stuff before i assemble it, also began disassembling the front beam to fit the dropped beam, and began removing the wiring harness from the '60 body as well as marking for some of the patch panels that need to be installed.....shoot, when you type it all out, it actually looks like i did something.....and no steve we wont talk about hitting myself in the head with the claw hammer

No, that would be the beginnings of a rusty focus! (look at the plate area)

Hey Andy -

If you decide to convert to carbs, (I don't recommend it, btw. The Type 3 FI system is simple and reliable and usually pretty easy and cheap to get running right. For the best help with the Type 3 FI, go to www.vwtype3.org) please remove all the FI stuff carefully. There are lots of Type 3 people that will gladly buy them from you.
