MarkH,
My plan on the lower A pillar, I bought replacement sections so I cut a spot out and installed the replacement section higher. I feel the body lines follow the door and such an important part for this chop so I will get the doors cut and mounted to my satisfaction then lower the body to fit.

I am in no way a pro at this stuff and if you guys have any suggestions please let me know.

MarkH, I have followed your build, I am impressed and humbled by your craftmanship
It is nice to have people such as yourself and the great group of guys and a few gals here on volksrods to get advice from.....

Lower A pillar pics.

Well thats it, next step fit the door top then move on to the drivers side.

That looks really great. Makes complete sense. I wouldn't change a thing.

Haven't tried a body section but I've been curious.

Thanks for the kind words. I am humbled every time I visit this site. Some crazy mad talent out there.

Keep it up.

I got home early from work today so I decided to go out to the garage and pull the drivers door to start the sectioning, after all how hard would it be to pull eight door screws?

After 2 1/2 hours, WD-40, "BFH", Every other Tool in the garage, Plasma Cutter and finally a Cutting tourch the door gave up the fight.

I don't get to go out to the garage much during the week so this delay did not make me to happy.

I did get a good look at the rear window area and was trying to decide if I should leave it with the rear pointed edge? well out came some cardboard and I think I will put a small radius.

Let me know what you guys think.
I'm hoping to get out Friday afternoon and start the drivers door.

Also let me know what you think, Swing Axel vrs. IRS vrs. Flipped Reduction Boxes.

Until next time....

I think a little more radius is needed. Just my opinion? Ultimately up to you of course. Mark

The radius at the rear looks great! You're making some excellent progress.

KDF,

I have not decided what to do with the back window yet, I have an oval window clip I may graft in or shrink it like you mentioned. I have a feeling that it will shorten up in some way, I want to get it sitting with the chassie and the motor to see what would look the best.

Feel free to comment or give sugestions at anytime. It could save some time and help out alot.

No real progress this weekend, I finished the passenger door and got it fit back in place, after I welded it to the B pillar I started thinking that I am not happy with the way the inside around the door looked, I will probably do some re-work when I cut the weld off.

Next up the drivers door. I'll try to post some pic's tonight of the latest progress.

Thanks to everybodys input to date.

Until next time.

So I got in the garage and finished the passenger door window frame.

Then I decided to move on to the hood and wait on the drivers door.
I tack welded the passengers side did a quick layout cut the hood to fit then tacked the drivers side ran a few spot welds down the new center of the hood.

So that's it for now, next up the drivers door. I'm not sure how much work I'll be able to do this week because of Christmas But I'll try to sneek out to the garage.

Until next time....

you are doing it right. when you chop a veedub like this you have to chop it first then you cab build the chassis because of the shorter body.i really like the side profile of this car. i was wondering what you were going to do with the hood and the raised bead down the center. will you be using a ford beam axle or vw axle? man you are getting me fired up to build another vr. i have an oval body just waiting behind the shop!!!!!

KDF, Thanks...

As far as the front suspension, I would love to run a dropped axel, I can't find one or the ones that I do find are too expensive, I am also thinking of a A Arm setup (like a mustang II) those are pricy also.

I would love to see you build another vr. (KDF II)

Are you done yet?

Your car is sick and love watching your build. I might try something like this after a few more builds I don't have the skill or talent yet.

Rob,

Good to hear from you.

KDF,

I would love to quit my day job and work on cars full time.

No real progress on the car this past week but I did get a few things done.

I made a steering wheel jig to help me with a custom wheel that D-Bug built for me over a year ago.

I am going to try to build a banjo type of wheel, if it turns out like I want it to I might use it on the 61' I made the jig universal so I could use it again.

I also got a park brake lever cut down for the truck project.

Then on the 61' I got about two hours in on just running tack welds around the car and I filled in the radio, ash tray, grab bar and one switch hole on the dash, I have a good idea on what I'm going to do with the dash if I can find all the right parts, nothing wild just clean and classy.

Next up the drivers door, the B pillar and of corse more tack welding.

Untill next time...
