Butcher '70 Single Cab
Hey Y'all been a while
Finally have an air cooled again and it's a project and a half (pun intended)
This rare jewel is a hack job, 70 single cab front and deck, 73 engine and backend.....
Has a 1700cc awesome,
front and rear bolt patern is different okay needs work
Treasure chest has a slider rocker, neat oh, screams custom door
Low flashers up front, Big tails out back
Perfect volks rod project if you ask me.
Plan is to cut out the rust, weld it up and drive,
already had some shaming from the purest
..................

Re: Butcher '70 Single Cab
Thanks guys
I'm still on the fence 'chop' or 'no chop'
I want to get all the rust repair out of the way before doing any body line changes.

I'm no purist. Should classic cars be restored? Probably. But driven always trumps sitting in a field, garage, or museum.
Personally, if the thing is built right, and if not too valuable when started, do it. Cut it up. Drive it. Enjoy it.

Re: Butcher '70 Single Cab
Wonder if it got into an accident or something? Because I see orange paint everywhere and it looks like somebody took a 1973 bus that might have been flipped wrecked or what not and then trimmed it and slid it underneath the messed up section of the 1970. I wonder if they just simply swapped the beam in the front then? I know little about buses but that's what it looks like to me.

Re: Butcher '70 Single Cab
Yes back end bus, front end single cab
Very awesome! I think it's just a rust repair
But don't have the full store yet
Lots of rivets, the deck was cut off with 2" of steel below then riveted on to the bus
Most of the bondo has fallen off so it makes it easy for me to drill them out
I have a frame section coming from Colorado, so just pulling parts off and making some beadroller dies (floor and deck profile) until them
Here is YouTube walk around

Re: Butcher '70 Single Cab
Any plans for a crazy engine swap? After hearing what one member did here with a transporter I've liked the idea of mid engine ford power

Re: Butcher '70 Single Cab
I'v got a frame section coming from Colorado, that's all the updates from now.
Going to pull the doors and any other large parts and bring them home to work on in my garage, the single cab is in storage for the winter, it's close to my house but not that close.
And funds have run out until I get some of the Pinstriping and Sign work finished that I have on the go... so I better get to it....

Nope it's about the same cost if I have the steel cut with two bends.
Shipping via Greyhound and I still have to crossover to pick it up
But way less work in fitment

Re: Butcher '70 Single Cab
Frame rail is here!!! shipped via Greyhound, Colorado to Buffalo NY.
I'm in Canada and woke at 4am this morning (I never get up that early) drove and drove and drove, crossed the Canadian/US border Grayhound was 10 minute drive state side
Walked into Greyhound to picked up my very long piece of frame rail and they tried to give me a Bumper! I declined. "same length" I told them, "but flat".
SO here I am walking through the bus terminal with what looks like a large rifle...
No, its not done yet... I like to collect parts first.

Re: Butcher '70 Single Cab
Still collecting parts and saving $$$ for more parts.
I have most of the small stuff, Big stuff needed are the windshield and drivers door window crank, up and down long channel thingy (I thought that there would be a repair kit for this?? just the rope with beads, simple right! I remember years ago 20+ repairing a Cadillac power antenna and the kit was a plastic rope with the antenna attached it was super easy to install)
OH and the big one! found the 9 louver side vents in the UK for a reasonable price!
just going to cut and weld them in.
no pics just a brain dump.
