Re: I ain’t dead yet, making a truck.
I got sick of trying to move my cart around so I found some scrap.

I trimmed the fat on the window.

Re: I ain’t dead yet, making a truck.
Getting closer and closer.
I decided to see if I could connect the drip rails by doing a 7 inch cut on each side to allow the metal to be shaped and tacked. I think this is going to turn out nicely. Never seen a bug truck done this way.
Probably because this takes a bit more effort than just lobbing off the back and calling it a day.

Great job with the blending of the lines. I love the ‘wrap around’ effect.

Same here. It’s much more complete look in my eyes than the typical lob off the back.
Progress until the little piece I cut out for the passenger side cab corner vanished.

DrHax,
Do yourself a favor and cover the inside and outside of that window with something (cardboard at least).
Welding spatter will ruin the glass quick and it will ruin your day (don't ask me how I know).

Re: I ain’t dead yet, making a truck.
Projects on hold I fractured my nose..
Here’s my progress before this.
I also discovered this lovely repair under a patch of bondo.
So I’m a bit fucked up right now.

I went for a walk on the property and because I have no balance and need a cane when I found a hole in the ground I fell hard. There was a fucking rock hidden in the grass. My family heard the Wilhelm scream and came out to investigate. I got fucked up real good.
Yeaaaah so I got to go to the ER be rushed to a hospital 45 minutes away via ambulance for surgery bleed for 10 hours straight only to be told at 11:2XPM that they couldn’t do anything because of the swelling.
As sad as it is I lucked the fuck out. It was only my nose. Not my jaw or the rest of my face but yeah it’s all fucked up.
Oh I also swapped out the 6 volt solenoid on the starter for a 12 volt one. But can somebody explain to me how the hell a solenoid costs 60$ but a WHOLE remanufactured 12 volt starter costs 38$? So now I have a 6 volt starter with a 12 volt solenoid and I have a 12 volt starter with a 6 volt solenoid

Re: I ain’t dead yet, making a truck.
Ouch! Well at least you still have a VolksRod to mess with and your sense of humor is intact. Plus the starter/solenoid 12 and 6 volt combo has me completely confused. Which these days isn’t that difficult. Maybe switch to a 9 volt system?

The 12 with a 6 volt solenoid is mainly so I can store the parts easier and not lose anything. The main thing I wanted was a 12 volt solenoid on a 6 volt starter that way the gear would work with the flywheel.
Reasoning is you can use a 6 volt solenoid but it has a higher chance of grinding teeth because things are really spinning fast.
Oh my engine test stand half ring arrived with its 12 and 6 volt bushing
Adapters.
It was the easiest install ever. So easy I’m paranoid and terrified that something isn’t right. It was toooo easy. Working with cars is never supposed to be this easy? What is this madness!?

Maybe ‘things being easy now’ is an attempt to make up for past ‘pains in the butt’ parts of projects. 🤔🤔😲😲😀😀

Or maybe I’ve spilt enough blood via my face so the car gods are pleased with the blood sacrifice.
Right now I’m trying to work out the wiring for a test engine stand. I just need to get a proper switch and a decent ground.

So the ‘car gods’ likely won’t insist you keep your ‘nose to the grindstone.’

No work will be done today as I’m going back to the cities to get my nose looked at. I’m getting a clear fluid constantly leaking from my left nostril so that’s alarming and since I can’t breathe through my nose and have to use my mouth my throat really hurts, honestly I’m a bit worried about infection at this rate, even if I’m not leaking CSP fluid ( or what ever it’s called.)
Don’t crack your face open. 0/10 would not recommend. Can’t see this catching on with the kids.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. That do some pretty dumb shit now-a-days.
ie:TidePod challenge, outlet challenge, the choking game, finding new ways to assault their nards, etc, etc. If you had got a video of it happening to post on youtube, the copycats would be everywhere!

Re: I ain’t dead yet, making a truck.
I swear civic departments get their rocks off by tearing up one ways in front of hospitals. There’s some civil engineer rubbing themselves knowing they’re maximising grief and hardship for the dumb poor fucks who have the stupid idea of being able to get to a hospital with ease.

Re: I ain’t dead yet, making a truck.
This is a nightmare. The hospital is forcing me to do many things. So the 27th is my surgery I need to come in the day before for stupid fucking covid-19 testing. Keep in mind I live 55 minutes away from that hospital and I can’t drive so my family needs to drive me there. They’ve already driven down there yesterday for me for the assessment. I can’t breathe through my fucking nose and the only place I could have caught this stupid fucking virus is at that hospital as I’ve been inthe rural countryside for the last past 16 months unable to leave my house or do much of anything.
Honestly if this crap keeps up I might not be able to finish my car because I’ll be bankrupted as I have no source of income because I’m disabled and applying for ssdi

Re: I ain’t dead yet, making a truck.
When my heart started ‘acting up a few years back, a doctor at the VA Clinic gave me a breathing exercise to keep me calm. I kept at it and eventually made the ‘problem literally go away.
So, get comfortable, breath in slowly through your mouth for five seconds. Hold your breath for five seconds, then breath out for five. Hold again for five seconds. Then repeat. I’d usually do this eight to ten times. I generally tried to sort of empty my mind as I did this.
You’re young and stronger than you may think. You’ll get through this.

I haven’t died yet. I know I’ll get through this. I’m just starting to feel like a sea world dolphin. Watch Dr.Hax the amazing cripple jump through all of these hoops!
Good news though I was able to wire up the postive side of my engine test stand, and I found an affordable windshield for the car so that’s coming in the mail.
Hopefully I can go to the auto parts store and pick up the switches and battery grounding strap I need to finish the test bench then I can see if the engine will start up. Only thing I’m uncertain about is the coil, however I found out the local tractor supply sells coils for 24$ also when it comes time to paint it I have figured out the colour I want. It’s 1 gallon of tractor paint mixed with 1 quart of John deer green. This creates a very nice sea foam green which is pretty close to the 1966 Bahamas blue colour. And it should only cost 60$
Oh I found a picture of this mixture from the HAMB

Just wanted to say I love this car so far, and the fact that you're using a factory VW rear window is mint
