No rust...10ft paint and no interior issues really. Clean car, just needs an altitude adjustment, wheels and the correct carbs...

Stupid, stupid idiot PPO! The carb's electric choke wasn't hooked up AND it was set to almost full closed all the time. DOH!
To top it off, the choke screws were so tight, i destroyed them to get them loose enough to adjust them. Finally got it set up so that the chokes go from closed to open in about 40 seconds. Warm idle is about 900rpm.

Runs better now, but OH MY HECK!

I need to find some dual carbs. The PPO removed all the FI stuff, including the wiring harness/brain. So, carbs...

Anyone have a set of ICTs/linkage/cleaners they would part with?

I've ALWAY disarmed the electric chokes & set them wide open on every VW I've owned since reading the book "How to Keep Your VW Alive" back in 1981 (my dad bought it for me as a Christmas gift after buying my first Bug at 15 years old), I didn't wanna take any chances after reading what John Muir had to say about them

It might take a bit longer to keep it running until it gets warmed up on the fridged cold Ohio winter days, but I'm ok with it, my ankle gets a lil sore, but I think of it as good physical therapy

as to the electric chokes, I don't use them on dual carb cars (short runners) but this stupid center mount is temp fickle.

I don't know if this is any help in your particular situation. In my Corvair powered '72 bug, I built a center mount manifold out of steel tubing for a Holly two barrel (with a cable choke) and initially had problems with the fuel delivery. On cool days the engine didn't run so well in the morning. But when the temp warmed up later in the day it seemed better, but not perfect. One morning when the engine was running rough, I noticed ice at the underside of the tubing beneath the carb. I ended up running a 1/4" copper tube from the exhaust on one side to the other, which I ran up against the underside of the manifold. I used a 1/4" fitting on one manifold and 1/8" or so on the other, the theory being that the hot gasses would flow across and heat the manifold. This worked and my problem with the carb ended.

Nice score. I've had a couple of Type 3's. Last one was a blue all original 73. Bought for $200.00/ Needed tires and a main seal. Lowered it and drove it.Always wanted a fastback.

400+ mile round trip today. I think I know all I need to know about my car now! No radio, just the voices in my head and the sound of the engine. Oh, and that crappy carb getting 21.5 mpg. Doh!
Well, it was an eventful trip! Felt what seemed like I lost a weight or broke a belt in a tire. Then suddenly it was much worse. Got off the freeway in PDX (200 miles from home) just in time for it to separate!
Limped to a tire store (thanks GPS). The tire held air until I got there.
Tire shop tried to put 195/60s on the front and the best two of my 165s on the back. Doh!
Made it just in time to my destination to watch my youngest dance. After, I started the 200+ miles back... Wind, rain, hail and then a full moon kept me alert in the dark drive.
The headlamps are non H4s (until tomorrow) and barely light up the nigh vs modern headlamps. Top that with them not being aimed correctly. Oigh! Brakes need a bit more bleed and I have a nasty rattle coming from either the hinges for the rear seat back or somewhere from the engine/transmission and transmitting to the cab. That is ANNOYING!
