Okay for a couple of weeks I thought it was just a really bad blury pic of a cat falling off a chair. Now that I know it freaks me the hell out.

I have never bought anything from the samba but am going to. I was wondering about all the scams ive been seeing on the site. Has anyone had a bad experience buying parts?? Im going to get a bus dash clip for my type 3 for 25 bucks plus shipping,56 total I think. I was wondering if somone would try to scam part buyers for that little?? Got ripped of by some lady on e-bay for 100 plus bucks!!! My fault cause her feedback was horible but still worried about the samba, a place ive never dealed with. Any info would be cool. (figured ide save thread space for other important stuff)

I found my 69 RHD suicide-doored bug on thesamba. But I guess that's a little different because I drove down to Seffner and looked it over before paying too much for it I've gotten screwed a couple times recently on ebay. But overall, I've been fairly lucky at buying stuff online. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. My $.02

I've never been screwed on eBay, and I've bought over 100 things from there.

On the other hand, some guy that actually came off as a nice guy, screwed me over on some 1-piece windows on The Samba. My dad bought his new `69 from The Samba, but we drove down to Portland from Seattle to see it first.

Finally, some fucker on STF took me for $40 for a Engle 120 camshaft.

I'll stick to eBay

I bought a bus dash from a guy on the samba for $40. Who are you buying from? Might be the same guy, he had a few.

you will always find good and bad on any classified or auction site. my luck has been awesome on ebay and same on samba, and i'v had well over 1000 dealings on ebay with only 1 or 2 sour deals. not a bad average. 1 bad deal on samba with a guy overseas, but many awesome deals

If you're really worried about buying it, use a postal money order, them if you get screwed, you can get the government to actually work for you. They don't like mail fraud. Save all copies of correspondence too. I've got some stuff listed over there and on STF, but mostly tire kickers, and a couple of real bites.

Yeah, I thought so too. I sent a payment registered and insured to Germany on 1/22/03. I filed a claim in March 03. I still haven't seen my money. I filed a claim for a money order I sent (USPS), they still haven't been able to track it...mail fraud, I hope you aren't in a hurry :D I say the post office sucks!!! BTW, my mother worked at the local Post office for 26 years, my father for 8 years, my uncle had a mail truck route for 20 yrs, and I had a mail box route for 2 yrs.

I had been scammed while using Western Union money order thinking they have a good protection. Wrong, they gave me the original money order back after being deposited and bank paper work. But who can deciper all of this dozen or so transaction stampings in the back and even if you can what can you do about it? You're left on your own then, Western Union did their share They're only good on lost money orders, but once cashed you're pretty much screwed...

Also thought PayPal had a pretty good protection. Some guy with 100+ positive feedback and no negative feedback so must be good. Well he disappeared along with my $150 transaction. So I filed a complaint through PayPal and found him as not fully completeing the transaction. But they can't refund my money unless he has $$ in his PayPal account (they do not take $$ off their bank account, has to be thei online PayPal account)

So all in all, I would not rely on any of the fraud protection on anything. I still buy stuff online, I usually get a a good honest transaction. Check the Samba classifieds section int heir forum and do a search for the seller. There maybe some feedback of him there. But for $50 deal I wouldn't second guess the deal if you really want it.

The PayPal was some high end computer speakers, the money order I forgot, it's been awhile.

Mostly honest people out there, but the very few that scares most of us, the "what if" factor. I've save some $$ overall that even the loss of the few scams I've been taken, I'm still ahead overall. In short, if you don't want to play the game, buy retail.
