My new Rod!

lotsa work still to do. (no shit!)

Plans are, Big Chop! Big Channel. 283 Chevy with a 3 spd manual. 10 bolt rear end. Fenderless and smoke em up skinny crossplies.

Trouble is, building a steel, early Ford, in this country is an expensive past time.I,m 5 large in already and I,ve not even started yet! I do have another (much better) body however and I,ve got 2x 283,s and 3 spds.............

almost enough to build 2 cars

BUT! I need an antidote to all this spendy spendy.Which leads me neatly onto..........

Its a 68 1300 that was fully restored about 6 or 7 years ago.Nice job too until a Skip Truck reversed over it.

beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, CRUNCH! oops, sorry mate.

Its been sat doin nort ever since as Alex, the owner, has moved on to a rather tasty Splittie Camper and had all but forgotten about his former love.

So in step me a Shaun ( the sheep)
He needs a good, rust free body to kickstart his project and I want a good pan and running gear to start mine off.So we bought the bugger.

Shaun spent the weekend buzzing the body off and the rest becomes mine this weekend coming
So far I,ve got myself.....
A rust free pan.
A rebuilt,low mileage 1300.
A good gearbox.
Rebuilt suspension,brakes,steering.
An early hood.
A pair of seats.
A set of sway-aways
Lotsa steel wheels.
Some 7.60x 15 Commander wide whites.
A free 71 body.
Loadsa panels.

Total expenditure on all of the above. £150 ($300)

This is going to be my daily driver so the 1300,s staying.
Thats where the sensible bit ends however as plans are..BIG chop, sectioned ( to get rid of the rotten lower 4") fenderless, stretched front end, steel wheels, wide whites.

Bit like my Model A really only on a beer and smokes budget!

And I,m just gonna have to get rid of that weird looking head thats attached to the top of the door.

Today I got to do some "proper" work!

This is my friend Martins 55 Chevy.
Nice motor and he,s made a real nice job of turning a complete turd into a beautiful car.
BUT! I,ve been trying to convince him for some time time now to change the wheels.Well, today we did the done thing!

Before.........nice,but lacking something.

Bit of a jump here and basically where I,m at right now. The heater channels are gone as is the bulkhead and windscreen pillars. Going for a full on roadster here guys and gals.
Possibly the most impractical style of car to drive in the frozen shitbox we call England but having ridden bikes for years I can testify that there is no such thing as shitty weather. Its all a case of the most appropriate clothing!
The body is moved back on the pan approx 10" but I might go forward or even back a bit more, just have to see how it all comes together as theres a lot of factors here that have to work together to make it,errrrrrrrr, work.

I always put a lot of effort into the driving position as after all, a comfy car is one you actually want to drive, right? So far, so good as it feels reet.
As you can probably see in the pic, I,ve decided to cut the front of the pan and move the body as opposed to moving the whole pan back. I figure this,ll save me about 12 feet of welding and besides, that pan is mint. Just have to move the seat mounts back.
Those 7.50 x 15 Commander Whitewalls are mounted on stock wheels But they work IMO as the Moon Disc compensates well for the pulled in sidewall. Just have to see how it handles. The body wont end up that chanelled either as the rear suspension has to come down a notch or two. When done, I,ll fab some temporary body mounts and get it sitting just right before I make em for real.

Crack on.
