Re: V8Transporter's V8 Single Cab
While doing some tinkering in the cab of the truck I spotted an interesting bit on page 65 of August HOTVWS magazine. There’s a picture of an Ambulance Fan, exactly like the one I sourced from a wrecked split window van and installed in the S C about 30 years ago. I’d just pulled and cleaned up the two speed switch to get it working right again.

Re: V8Transporter's V8 Single Cab
Did you send in a question to Hot VW’s magazine. Or are there two people with a Ford in a SC?

Re: V8Transporter's V8 Single Cab
Monday I had a Hernia surgery at the SFVA hospital. It had been scheduled for June but with Sherrie’s broken ankle I had to push it out. Can’t say enough good things about the great folks at the VA hospital.

Hope your doing well. Just playing catch up and saw your thread. I hope to get up to Sonoma in the next month or so. Would be cool to see your truck.

Re: V8Transporter's V8 Single Cab
Fifty years ago tomorrow I was recently home from Vietnam and found the somewhat banged up ‘58 Single Cab sitting forlornly in the back row of used cars at a car dealer in San Jose. It had spent it’s prior life at a nursery before being traded in. After a fun ‘test drive, three hundred bucks traded hands and it’s been a great time ever since.

Re: V8Transporter's V8 Single Cab
Well, it’s been one of those weeks. On Friday I’d changed the oil ‘n filter on the Blue Max. This included draining the oil from the RX-7 cooler adapted when I swapped in the 351 Windsor to help keep the engine cool. After a quick truck wash we went out for a cruise into town. On the way back a bit of smoke began to flow out from under the dash. We made it home okay, and the smoke stopped, but I figured the old single cab was hinting that it was time for the new wiring harness.
In the years after getting the SC, there have been a couple of Corvair engines, with mods to the existing 6 volt system converting to 12 volt. Then the major change when the Ford V8 went in. I’ve known for some time, due to wiring problems here and there that the Ron Francis Wiring bought a while back should be installed. And I’ve mentioned it here a time or six. So, Sunday I hauled down the box from above my little shop and started checking things out. The instructions are pretty incredible and the super high quality kit will no doubt be a wonderful addition. Although a neighbor stopped by and did some serious teasing after finding the receipt in the box. It was dated 2-08-07. Sigh.
So if any of you out there don’t get going right away when your parts arrive, you’ll be in good company.

Re: V8Transporter's V8 Single Cab
You scared me with starting with and oil change, then smoke. Because when the smoke stops, good chances your out of oil. Enjoy your rewiring.

Re: V8Transporter's V8 Single Cab
I'm there too... I have an aluminized BRAND NEW gas tank for my bug out back, that has the packages it came with including the filter sock and fittings and all... taped to the tank is the packaging. I haven't looked at it in a few years, but I seem to recall it was a 2008 purchase... I had planned on powder coating the tank after I got some powder coating experience... I started coating in 2008. Now, since I got my pacemaker, my doctors advise against powder coating due to the high voltage and exposure to the shock hazards... Nothing really pressing me to put the tank in, but I have the same time line on some of my projects.
One day...

Re: V8Transporter's V8 Single Cab
Well, I’m in the process of putting a turbo on my bug. I got the turbo from a junkyard in the mid 90’s. Hey, life happens.
