Re: My concept for the general Vee
It looks like I will be able to make it. . I will probably be down there with my daughter. I look forward to checking it all out.
I will not be in the VW. I just started the wiring tonight. It may be done, but not legal.

Re: My concept for the general Vee
Just curious how many of you actually wire it back up to stock configuration, or do you use the dune buggy schematics out there? I am not running 4 way flashers. I will have a flare kit. :)

Re: My concept for the general Vee
Not saying I wired mine the right way......... Since I took out most of the stock switches and the spedo I wired up some toggle switches and push button switches and 4 indicator lights. Used a trailer converter to run single tail lights as brake and turn signals, lost the windshield wipers since the motor didn't work and it's a fair weather car only and the hazzard flasher didn't work with the trailer converter so........... When I was all done and the shit that I wanted to work was working I disconnected the battery and started cutting and or removing any wires not in use. It worked for me

Re: My concept for the general Vee
Don't worry Tequilla, I found a bunch of old threads in the search. Some that I had bookmarked earlier. I will find one today. Autozone says special order. I will try a trailer place locally. Thanks.

Re: My concept for the general Vee
I found a Hopkins Taillight converter at Autozone. Part number 48845. 14 dollars. Smaller than I expected. Do you still need to run flashers with these units? Oh, by the way. They are out of blinker fluid at Autozone. :)

Re: My concept for the general Vee
With the trailer connector my rear hazard lights didn't flash and I believe if I remember correctly the turn indicator (Dash) light didn't work right either. My solution was to ditch the hazard light switch and mount dual turn indicator (Dash) lights. One for left and one for right.

Re: My concept for the general Vee
Got the headlights, hi lo switch hooked up. I also got the starter turning over the motor. Weeeee. A note to anyone who has painted their car and misc parts, make sure you get a good ground on your lights and stuff. I had to go back in and take a round file to a lot of brackets in order to get a good ground.

Re: My concept for the general Vee
Got the wiring done tonight. I have to clean it up and tie it down, but it is all working except for the oil pressure and the gen light. I have to figure that out yet. Baffled.
I got the exhaust mounted, still waiting for the stinger. I also started to fill up the braking system. Tomorrow, bleed and adjust. I will be starting it for the first time tomorrow. I hope I can sleep. :)
I met Rawb down at Painters Grinding today. They had a little BBQ. There were two Vrods there. One was a pick up that was stretch to the bejesus. But no camera, sorry. Rawb's car will be cool when it is all wrapped up. The wheels are montstrous.

Re: My concept for the general Vee
I managed to get it running today, it fired right up after getting the fuel system primed with the coil disconnected and letting it turn over for a while. It needs a little bit of a tune up. I will do that this week. The big things left are bleeding and adjusting the brakes. A buddy was suppose to come over this afternoon and help with it. No sign yet. Here are some shots cleaned up outside today.
Waiting on stinger and windshield yet.

Re: My concept for the general Vee
HAHAHA. No armour all for you. (in my best soup nazi voice.)
Took it for a ride today. It would appear that I will be replacing the master cylinder. Ugh... Brakes work, but not great. The linkage still hits the hood. I will need deck lid stand off I think. The family had a blast in it. :)

Re: My concept for the general Vee
Hey Pale,
Check the adjustment of the brake shoes, you may have to adjust them a few times before they bed in. Loose shoes will give a longer pedal stroke before making contact. Just a thought, and easy and cheap to fix.

Re: My concept for the general Vee
Thanks! I have them adjusted out already unfortunately. I see a leak coming out of the reservoir supply line. But it isn't under pressure there. It was the one that came with the car. It should be an easy replace anyways.

Re: My concept for the general Vee
HEHEhe. It was the license plate light assembly rattling on the deck lid. I looked in the rear view mirror and didnt see the engine bouncing in the road...So it is all good.

Re: My concept for the general Vee
You too Rawb! I look forward to hanging out in the dirty bastards section at the VW on the Greens show. Will you be running then or pulling it up? Rock on!
Tonight I made the template for the windshield and planned out the sound system. Pics later this week.
