Default "Konniption Fit"

I have a noob thread buts its full of unfinished projects...

this is one of the D3 competition cars... i'm from the west side of phoenix and will be doing most of the fabrication work on the ride...

and lookie waht i found!!!!

here's me and the sauce on our serious score... we got these two rags and my bus clip and a front complete drivers door for $300!!

what ya got there Jay???

look how empty my garage is... where's my 65??? look at that front bus clip... :D

how i got it home

so.. i think i got alot acomplished on this beast today.. got the front end extended...

I'll show pics cuz you aint doin it like i am anyway....

as like all my projects.. i have not a good camera... so deal with the cell pics or close the sreen :D

as you know i got a 70's pan... cant do ball joint... so off it goes

here is what i'm using for an extension... a complete "pan head" and half the freaking pan... but whats this crap nside the tunnel??? we dont need that... so off it goes

and then i cleaned the rest of the crap off...

dicited to make little cuts in it so i could flare it out to fit over the other one...

got it in place.. time to measure.... measure.... measure.... measure.... measure.... measure.... measure.... measure.... measure.... measure.... measure.... measure.... measure.... measure.... did i say measure????

of course at this point the entire car is level... and measured from the corners to be the same height at each one... made sure it was ... level .. and measured

time to weld...

cant end the day without a full frontal...

sorry guys.. thats it for today...

so... i cut this huge hole in the pan...

cut an inch out of each side... thats what the orange paint is for... i took 1in masking tape and aprayed over it so i would know-ish where to cut... not perfect cuts but its excactly one inch in on the top and bottom

i took a piece of 1in flat and spot welded it to keep it stady whilei finish the rest of the pan... it might get knocked out later... i dont like the way it looks... so it will probably be for support for now

dirty pics

cleaner pics

yup... now for a shower s i can go to work...

p.s. i got a package at the ex's house??? i should get it tomorrow when i get my little girl... i wonder what it might be.... but yeah i had to change my address in paypal.. i guess i had the wrong one in there

progress has been slow... i have been moving into a new apartment and bigger garage...

[/quote]

on that note got some motivation as I have taken 2 weeks off to relax and work on the rod...

not a whole lot of progress... but its still progress...

cleaned up the firewall and narrowed it...

cleaned up the heater channels and retaped the holes cuz they were a bit rusted... going to go to the hardware store and get some bolts to bolt it to the pan before i weld it to the firewall permanently

here ya go.. 2am progress pics...

i"ll probably start cutting the body this weekend

well today was definately a productive day....

had eric and eddie help on the cuttage of the body..

pretty much had to cut the heater channels out and mate two together to make one..

mocked up on the pan... i still need to get hardware to bolt it to the pan before i finally weld it together... should have this finished by the end of the week...

eddie showing you what the "window" height of the car will be... thats how tall the window will be at ride height!!!

now with the roof just sitting there... thats what the roof line wil look like on "B" pillar.. the rear isnt right cuz we havnt hacked it off yet... and there wont be that severe of a rake... and it obviously will sit back further.. just wanted to see what it looked like...

here are the most recent developments... not much... but some progress

got the swing axle plates and torsions in and down in the rear a little bit..

fully extended

fully compressed

the plan is to cut all that crap off and weld a cross bar for new shock supports... so yeah it wont be like that for long

this is more mock up with the quarter panel... but still need to cut and reattach some stuff and put the rear window in and figure out wher the tub is going... but its about the right height,...

i'm getting back on this one... my truck has had issues and my bug had issues... so i had no car and no money... so now that thats taken care of... should be some progress over the next few weeks...

hopefully i get this 72 standard for cheap so i can get more parts to rob... and that would make 5 cars i cut up to make this one

so yeah... be prepared to see some more cell pics!!

this car came with everything i needeto finish this car...

one piece windows
window regulators
steering column
and..

alot of good metal...

so this makes car # 5

all of witch are not fixable to stock.... this front end on this pan is so rusted its ridiculous.. the beam is barely hanging on... just doing my part to put another RAD VW on the road...

Further analysis.. is shit!!!

both sides of this thing is crap!!!

might have to re-think what i need to do...

i was planning on skinning the doors and such... but i might just move my heater channels up and do a body drop too...

here's an idea.. the bottom half is crap... i could just use the bottom of my other channels and just cut the bad out and replace it by moving it up... wont change the seating position just shortens my heater channel from the bottom..???

here's a sample...

Made my measurements..

it looks like it will be a 6" section of the body with a 2" body drop...

it ended up that way because i'm making the body removable... and i am welding the body flush with the bottom of the heater channel.. i always hated the look of a volksrod with the "channel" from where the running boards used to go... so i'm eliminating it....

no pics till i get both sides welded up...

i lied about the pics.. i'm not done just tacked one side in place...

braced it so it wont move on me..

measurements and judge lines

after removal of shitty heater channel..

and tacked in place...

i was getting frustrated a little cuz i had to keep cutting a little more and then a little more.. but i like where its headed and i would rather cut not enough than too much...

well.... off to work... hopefully i can get this side finished up and start on the other tomorrow...

yup.. i'm getting pretty stoked.. but i still have alot of work to do...

i have to recheck some measurements on this side... its extremely critical to get both sides to match.... i might just hack the car in half and slap it on the pan before i final weld both sides....

off to work

cleaned up the body a little more.. ready to take the roof off, cut the dash out, and narrow the body in the morning...

got some stuff from the man Daryll @ bugzylla.com

beam tubes with adjusters... just going to set it where i want the stance and still have some adjustability..

IRS drop plates!!!

leveled the pan so it can receive the body in the morning... not so sure my garage floor is level.. but i used old license plates under the stands to keep it right ... it worked

She had to check.. didnt trust me :D

Got some more done on this.. just making sure all my angles and measurements aere right on the front... tacked more stuff into place.. got the rear quarters where i want them... and there are a few pics of my front end and how far in front it is...

and then here is the pic of all the crap i tore off of this thing!!

done for now.. going to bed so i can get up early... i have 3 days off this week cuz i worked today.. so expect a whole lot out of me by the weekend!!!

no progress today...

so the front pinch is 4 inches... yes my front end is 4inches narrow... not at the heater channels. but the cowl... and the rear will support a full size oval window rain gutter to rain gutter!!! so it will be a little pie shaped.. but i think the outcome will be rad!!!!

so this is my plan for tomorrow.. prep this badboy and put it in!!!

going to bed now so i can get up early and maybe put my roof on tomorrow!!! at least by Friday anyway

eddie showed up to help out.. glad he did cuz this would have been crazy to do by myself...

mocked up

tacked in place..

i wanted to put the window in like it was stock before i start my "capella" style chop.. which will eliminate everything in the red triangle...

thats it till Friday... the plans for Friday is to get the roof on so i can start the doors in the next few weeks... got some crazy's coming to help me too.. so we are going to kick ass on this!!!

i need to raise my 65... yes RAISE it so i can get it on a trailer in the morning... hopefully get the trans figured out and hope that Daryll does a rad job on what he is tasked to do... as he always does...

Mike
