I am 19 Live in Scottsville Ky, 10miles south of BowlingGreen KY. I am majoring in Advanced wood processing and currently work as a Carpenter for Larry Anderson Construction. Onto the BUG!

This is my first everything. First car, first bug, first time welding, first time grinding, first time everything! I am loving every minute of it!!

I bought a 1970 and a 1969 bug off of my boss. The 69' his perfect body but rusty floor pans. So I decided to save that one for later or sell it for mo money :) The 1970 was wrecked front and rear end. But the pans were so perfect and pretty I couldnt resist. Soo 70' is what im workin on. Got her back to my house about first week of novemeber.

Right away starting cutting, cutting and more cutting. Finally got the rear collision damage off and the front damage off. Welded on brand new front and rear clips.

This is her after collision damage fixed.

Well now that that was done it was time to have some customizing fun and let my imagination run absolutely wild!!

So far the whole front end has been rebuilt. The front beam was cut and turned with adjusters. New chrome tierods. KYB Gas shocks. Sprayed all the steering components with bedliner and also did the compartment and wheelwells. Then added 8spoke empi's with low rider 135's up front (soon to be 205 Falkens)

This is her with that done

Currently, the rearsuspension is all dropped out. Engine out. Tranny out to be rebuilt. And I am prepping her to be sand blasted. UPS finally dropped off my new blaster today :)

Pics of rear

Pics of interior

Now future plans.

Body-

My current plan is to weld up all the fenders aprons ect... and smooth them out. Much like Peters beetle juice bug. I wanna do some custom work to the front and rear fenders to make them hug the ground and wheel more. Like a custom air dam and some ground effects. I wanna fabircate some custom running boards or buy some wider aluminum ones. All chrome is gone (YUCK) Door handles will be shaved and Autoloc door poppers installed. Windows will be tinted Limo black which should happen right soon while I have the glass out.

Suspension - wheels -

Well as you can see from my pics it will have empi 8spokes. I am planning on installing 205 falkens onto those. The car is lowered in the front so far, about 4 inches from original position judging from p[reviouse pic. The rear will be lowered level with that. All new shocks. Currently have KYB Gas shocks but am changing out for KYB GAS-A-JUST lowered shocks.

Engine- Rotary conversion all the way. Thanks to the fellas over at shoptalk for the insperation :)

Interior- Oh boy oh boy this is where she gets that extra TLC. Black leather seats, thanks to a wrecked bonneville. Back seat, HA what back seat? No back seat for me. That will be finished out for luggage space or stereo set up. Black carpet. As luck would have it my sister is a sewing wiz :) So I have full custom headliner and sculpted door panels on the way. Th headliner will have a flame pattern and the sculpted door panels will match. The Headliner will have VOLKSRODDD embriodered on it.

Paint- Oh and as luck would have it my brother is a professional car painter. Boy Im a lucky guy!! Paint is going to be perfect. No shortcuts here. my bro would kill me :( My brother is coming down this summer to give her the final touch. Will be Metallic Silver with Blue chameleon Flames. The flames will be faded in with a light blue pearl. 4 coats of clear to finish off all wheeled out and polished to a shine so bright it will prolly blind you!! Im thinking about painting my empis with the same blue chameleon, but that is undecided. At 33 bucks an ounce it wouldnt be a cheap step !!

Well the blasting has begun. Took some time to find somone that sells blast media out here but I did. Only thing I found was Glass bead 50lbs for 30 bucks. Which was enough to get me started and I wont be buying more of that. Just to expensive, I cant afford 3000000000bucks in glass bead just to strip my car. I got word that a construction supply here in town sells silica sand for 7 bucks 100lb sacks. Hope they do!!

After using my 50lbs of glass and reusing it about 5 times I got both rear wheel wells strips down to bare metal , along with the engine bay, and some of the suspension parts. Started a little bit of the rear body where it had collision damage before. pulled off the bondo they put in to see what was there. It would appear as though im the second person to put in a new rear clip. A clip for a clip? Ironic I guess.

Working on a plan for a powered hood. I plan to get some square steel tubing to reinforce my hood and remove all of its flex make it stiff as can be. Mount a steel hidden hing at the front under the lip and an actuator in the front above the spare tire well to open and close my hood. According to my plan and price sheet should be able to accomplish this for around 70 bucks. :) Sometimes I wonder if poor people are the most creative ;)

All in all she is coming along......

Pics of the blasted areas.

EDIT*********

I found a place right here in town that sells abrasive. paid 15 bucks for 200lbs. More in my budget :) Should give me enough to finish blasting my suspension parts, tranny case and other odds and ends so that I can paint out the rear and put my baby back on all 4.

Got all my suspension parts blasted primed and painted. Blasted my tranny case and started polishing it, then decided to hold off until I can get my rebuild kit for it. Started re-assembly of rear suspension. Should have her back on 4 wheels 2 marrow once I get the rear suspension adjusted where I want it I will take some pics.
