officially sucked into the aircooled realm for a little over a year now....never drove one yet and i have two of them.....managed to amass quite the treasure trove of parts but the time has come to stop being a collector and actually start tearing shit up and getting down to making my projects come to life

I might be trading the 70 project and some parts for a motorcycle.....been working on an engine stand and my latest attempt includes a 14$ harbor freight hand cart ,a gas barbeque pedestal and an old transmission..i havent tested it yet but here is a look at it in its current form.....

the engine stand works but i have to figure out an easier way to mount the motor...nearly had hernia #2. I replaced the starter on the 70 and the motor is turning over I'm going to try and hook up the fuel system soon. It'll be interesting to see if this changes my mind about selling it to finish the 63. all i need to do to the 70 now is the fuel system and replacing the shiftrod. the one from the autostick mustnt be long enough because im not finding all the gears at the moment...........on the lighter side im hoping the neighbors dog gets a kidney stone or something because the little bastard keeps pissing on my tires. it made changing the starter more annoying than it shouldve been. They must feed that thing asparagus or something

the 70 runs and idles awesome. I't was sweet music to my ears. It gave me some real motivation. I need to swap out the shiftrod for a manual one and bleed the brakes before i can atempt my big spin around the block. I also need to bend the gas filler neck more because i have a little fuel leaking out when i put gas in at the moment.

I did a few things yesterday which started with a shiftrod swap.compared the shiftrods and the manual one is roughly a 1/2 " or so longer than the original autostick. it did the trick and i'm finding all the gears now. drained the oil and found alot of watery foamy glop. it must have gotten in through the carb at some point because it didnt have an aircleaner or a driptray on the decklid.....so if anyone has a spare i'll do cash or trade whatever it takes.
I put new oilchange gaskets and did the valve covers as well. today i'll try to get the brakes bled so i can attempt my first ride ever in an aircooled vw
