Re: Welcome to Skidmarks Garage, Shop Truck Build
Finished the block sanding this evening, all is in 180 grit and all of the pin holes and minor imperfections are taken care of. just some sanding with finer grits now until it's slick as a babies butt and then the mold making will commence, stay tooned !........

Re: Welcome to Skidmarks Garage, Shop Truck Build
The hood has been waxed and is now coated in PVA ( mold release ) and the tape around the edge will create a "dam" which will allow the return edge to be formed.............

Re: Welcome to Skidmarks Garage, Shop Truck Build
Trimmed the edge dam down to about 3/4" and laid up 1 coat of 2 Oz. mat over a barrier coat of aluminum tape on the back-side to start creating the return part of the mold. one more 2 Oz. lay-up will be enough on this part and the mold will be complete as I have laid 2 coats of 2 Oz. mat on the outside today as well. I'll lay that up in the morning, add a structural element to the outside and push it in the corner until next week-end when I'll peel the mold from the plug ..............................

Re: Welcome to Skidmarks Garage, Shop Truck Build
OK guys and gals one of our followers has asked "how much does it weigh" ? so I've decided to have a little contest.
Looking for the total weight of the hood mold and for those who wish to research it all out the ingredients are ( approximately ) as follows...........
1.5 quarts of orange tooling gel coat
2.5 Gal. resin
1 layer of 3/4 Oz. mat, 3 layers of 2 Oz. mat over ( best I can measure ) 24 Sq. feet of mold surface.
19 Ft. 8 inches linear feet of 1" X1" square welded tubing 16 Gauge ( .0625 wall )
Keep in mind that it is probably " resin rich " as I am not a pro.
Guesses should be in U.S. pounds to the closest 1/2 pound.
This contest is being simulcast on ..............
https://www.facebook.com/groups/577279455671581/
and...............
https://www.facebook.com/groups/332814530068065/
Feel free to guess what you like even if the same weight was guessed by another as I have in place a "Tie breaker" contest in case we have more than one winner.
The mold will be peeled from the plug and weighed this Friday afternoon at which time the winning weight will be posted. Judges ( That's me ) decision is final !
Post responses only at the end of this post DO NOT POST YOUR GUESS ON A SEPARATE POST AS I COULD NEVER FIND THEM ALL.
Here is a picture of the final mold.................................
GOOD LUCK, GO !!!

Re: Welcome to Skidmarks Garage, Shop Truck Build
IMHO, the luggage rack on the nose would look nicer if built with round tubing.

Re: Welcome to Skidmarks Garage, Shop Truck Build
If they still had the monthly CBotM like in years gone by this would be at the top, next to the mangler. Hopefully this doesn't go the way of the other builds.
