Re: SteamPunk
I am the gun/lamp owner and can't say how happy I am with how it came out. I gave Fishguts some basic ideas about what I wanted and let him do his thing. The gun was an old Stevens that I had been told was no longer safe to shoot. I thought this was a good way to keep and old gun in the family and even celebrate it a little.
I am obviously biased but, I looked at a lot of pictures online of other steampunk props and you'd be hard-pressed to find one better done than Fishguts has made.
On a side note, last weekend I bought a lot of 40-50 old electronics tubes for 8 bucks. Many of the 7 pin variety that fit in the side of this lamp, some still in there original boxes.

OOOOH I might be begging you for some of those! Thanks for the compliment. It was a fun project, but one of the more challenging pieces I've worked on.
Backpackr ... good to know a gun that can't be operated is OK. But I have to confess, for a short while there, it was operable, even after I cut about 10" off the barrels. It was creepy having a sawed-off shotgun on my bench for a while. I felt better after I plugged the barrels and added the lamp hardware.

Re: SteamPunk
MatteBlack, It's your gun and you have every right to do what you want, I understand that. I have a soft spot for double barrel shotguns. But thanks for letting me know that it was a Stevens in questionable shape. I'll sleep better tonight! It really is an awesome piece.
Fishguts, I don't know if you have any use for capacitors, diodes and things like that. Someone threw 2 small parts drawer storage units away in the dumpster at work. I rescued the units. The drawers are packed with various electronics components that I will never have a use for. If you can use them, I'll drop them off.

I am intending on heading up to Waltham for that Steampunk City event. I will try to remember bring them along. I figured that I could not go wrong for that price to have some spares tubes.
I have to admit, I was really hoping the neighbors weren't wondering why the giant man with the black sedan was dropping off strangely shaped items wrapped in a blanket. It felt a little illicit.

MatteBlack and BackPackr - love to have whatever electronic bits you don't need or want. Not that I have current use for them, but you never know. Thanks for thinking of me.
You think your handling strangely wrapped items looked illicit ... how about that poor lady in the commuter parking lot where I delivered your lamp when she saw you get it out of the trunk and sight through the scope? She dove in her car and sped off! I was expecting a SWAT team to drop from helicopters! "Put the lamp down and keep your hands in the air!!"

Re: SteamPunk
And before the SPVR and the blue Race-VR it looked like this, a real "hot rod" VW ;)
But the SPVR is the final edition of the car and i´m now building a VR6 equipped midengned type3 with a stealt theme called NASCALI A-117 (inspered by Lockheed Martins F-117)...

Not exactly "steampunk" but this thread was the first thing I thought of when I saw this video.
