Ill throw my suggestion into the ring.
Red arrow, small flame has to go...looks stunted.
GREEN arrow indicates where I would raise that line just a bit to allow that lick to cover the hole. Sweet car any way ya go though!

Now that the holidays are over it's time to get back to the projects. I think me and the pinstriper got the flames worked out, it looks more like a Hot Wheel car now, looks better I still am not feeling it yet (I will post a pic later)
We both decided to look at it in the spring and do any tweaking to it then. I have it put away with a cover over it for now, I will be getting it back out and starting to work on it end of March or first part of April, I will be trying to get it ready for Volkswagons on the Green in Colorado last week of May if I can't take the car I still would like to go to the show.

I have not had much time or ambition to work on anything lately too cold, too old, too many body aches and not enough money.

I have been getting ready all week to go out to the garage today and work on the Volkstruck project. Two days ago I started coming down with a cold and I think today is the worst part, also it's 20 outside right now. I am going to try to fight through it, and at least get a few hours in today.

I will keep you all posted on progress, and try to post picturs as much as possible. I am still trying to figure out how to use this form as best as possible, I am very computer illiterate. (D-Bug has offered to give me some pointers the next time he is in my area)

Thanks Guys.....

Why not - I could have bought one of those for like $1,500 in 1970. Oh man - hindsight ...

I ran across a1955 Bug in Germany, before I left in 1969 to come back to the States. What made this one unique, I could have bought it DM1200. At that time, that was $300.00 problem was, it had mechanical brakes and plate glass windows. I ran out of time to get that all handled before I had to leave. I did some research on it and found that it was definitely a factory produced vehicle. talk about hindsight.

Well I think it was a good weekend. I did not get as much done as I would of liked too but I got 4+ hours yesterday and 3+ hours today, with being sick I got about 4-5 hours of work done for the 7+ hours I spent in the garage.

I did manage to get the 30' ford bed mounted it's all tack welded, I made it removable so I will finish welding it when I pull it off. I wanted to also get the engine and transmission pulled but no luck I guess I will try next weekend. I am not going to make the truck a roadster (I wanted to but the wife said "NO WAY") So going with a 4"-6" chop. I am just trying to fab as much as I can before I put the top back on. I am also going to try to make some small 1/4 windows for it, I have not seen this done if I don't like it I guess I could just fill them in.

I tried to draw a concept of the truck but my drawing skills are not as sharp as they used to be, the more I tried the less I liked it so I gave up on that idea. I also need to come up with a name for the project Volkstruck.

Okay so here's a few pictures of the pinstripe flame job, a few of the Volkstruck project and my new D-Bug 10" extension. I think I will let this thread turn into a build thread on the 67' Volksrod then start a new one for the 66' Volkstruck.

That's an interesting muffler you got on there! Is it what I think it is? Or does it just look like a fart can? I kind of do like it though. Car looks really good.

Yes it is a empi muffler, I did have it powder coated black because the Crome finish was turning colors from the heat, it dose keep the 2276cc fairly quite until I step my foot into it then all hell breaks lose.....

I got this great steering wheel hoop that D-Bug made for me to go on the "Volksrod" now I just need to come up with the inside wheel idea, I'm thinking of banjo style Well just a quick update for now..... I tried to upload a photo of the hoop but it will not let me at this time

As you can see I got one uploaded

... I Said Goodbye to My Old Friend ...
Well after many happy memories of the Volksrod it was time to let someone else enjoy it for a while.

Here's some pic's of the finished product.

After many happy memories, cuts, stitches, sleepless nights, money spent, and to many car shows to remember....
... It has been a good run...
I know the new owner won't appreciate it or care for it the way I have.

Thank you.... All my Volksrod Family

Doc,

I sold the V-rod through EBay, the new owner is in Hanover, PA.

The car was sold less engine and transmission, through correspondence with the buyer he chose to have me install the race built transmission and a used 1776cc motor, when it left my garage it was running great and driving 65mph + with no problems...

The new owner owns an Internet and local auto sales company, he told me that he will enjoy it for a few months then sell it in hopes to turn a profit.

Other then that it's about all I know, I have dearly loved building the 67' and it was also my first build, I have taken what I have learned and applied it to mine and my friends builds, at this time I am continuing to push my abilities and ideas, I love seeing what can be crafted out of a vw, I am always inspired by what I see here on volksrods....

The sale of my V-rod will help fund my other projects.

Hey Tileguy, i guess ill see that vr this spring in honover PA . Its like 7 miles from where i live, i drive mr VR thru there all the time, I really hope the buyer has plans for fenders on that here in PA, and that will be a shame to put fenders on it, but anyway its about time theres another VR around here.

Popz,

That would be neat if you do see it, you'll have to let me know if he's taking care of it, the 1776cc that he had me install, needs some detail, bolt on parts and a new exaust to make it show worthy (that's my 2cents)

I think in our future builds we all need to take fenders into consideration, here in Utah we have a fair weather law that allows fenderless cars on good days, however if you are not showing off and minding your P's and Q's most police will leave you alone....

It's been awhile since I've heard anything about my old Volksrod, the guy that bought it from me sold it.

The new owner (Dave) called me and wanted to know some history, info on the build and if I could send him some pictures, I told him I would.

He's waiting for the Volksrod to be delivered (I think he told me it will be delivered on Saturday) I told him about Volksrods.com he immediately checked it out and became a member.

So I hope he either picks up where I left off or starts a new thread.

Hey Thanks for reposting all of that is good to see the history of a car especially one that someone put so much time into.
You are sure you wont sell the motor?
Just kidding I know you want that for another project,
Supposed to get the car here this weekend still waiting on his transport guy then if all goes well maybe moving to Nevada so never know might see her again.

Hey Popz,

How do you like those headlights on your Volksrod?
I searched and could not find much of a build thread on your car
But what I did find I really liked

Take care...

Sorry for the mini hijack
