I like the chopped top, but wouldn't lean the windshield back.

If it were mine...I would be inclined to do something like this...

The stretched roof and rear quarter windows help get rid of the awkward hump at the top of the decklid. Lots more work for this option, but I think it would be worth it. Much better proportions to the car.

Of course I slammed it too.

Nice quick photoshop John. Nice find with potential. The square upper rear door corners have to go. The hump in backof roof can be leaned forward to help when you take a few inches out of the top. If you bring the back of the top forward even more, you ca make it a 3W style like the 36 Fords pictured. Or 5W as John made up. Either remove B-pillar thickness as 3W, or use it to make 5W. Also agree the hump over engine needs smoothing out.

Yes lot of work, but it will be nice when finished.

However the real question.. Fenderless or not? Because if doing fenders that does limit what the roofline can do. Also for that rear hump with the vents why not take a hood and modify it grafting into the body? it has a much gentler arch that doesn't leave traces of a roof being there.
Granted a car like this needs to go fenderless
SO much potential I can't wait to see what you do!

well I cut it up , sold off some of the parts, scrape most of it . I only have the pan and the center of the body left. that is right . it was so bad I didn't need tools to remove the body off the pan and the rear clip came off with alittle shaking of the car. fellas I feel bad for being the one to send most of this car to be melted down to become the next kis but these was NOTHING left to save but the top , pan , and title. now don't worry she will be remade into something new again. maybe a planter in my front yard..... or just hang up in my rafters in my shop. ;) just keep your eyes out to see what happens. it many resurface with a Bonneville style layed back and slanted chop , moon discs, front engine, etc .

Some time ago I was goin' through some photos of "odd" VWs and ran across this sweet lil ride. I 'shopped it a bit... lowering it and adding suicide doors.. but overall, I didn't plat with the basic design of the car at all.

It kinda reminds me of what you've got there...

I totally agree, but ya know, we have one of those toy cars, it comes in handy during the Spring &* early Summer for moving bags of mulch around

awhile back I got a call to buy an old vw that's was converted into a coupe. I was built back in the 60's. the more dug into it the more I found that was bad. it is down right SHOT! but seeing the potential for a cool volksrod I have starte...d to cut on it. well more than cut on it more like hack it up. you see it was ugly and I intended to save this little vw that was once some ones pride and joy but I will be cutting the ugly out of it and replacing it with cool . here are some ruff teaser pics . it will be chopped over 8" and have a kind of Bonneville pearson brothers style look to it . stay tuned it !!!

well I don't know yet on the engine. I had thoughts :

1. vw air cooled engine in the front with an adapter to a s-10 t5 5 speed and an old for banjo rearend.
2. vw front engine to a vw trans axle in the rear turned around but with a center drive tube like the new corvettes.
3. some form of corvair power.
4. Subaru power
5.vr6 and trans out of a gti in the rear.
6.????

I really do not know. my fav is 1. vw engine in the front/ t5/ old ford banjo rear but I need a vw bus bell housing to built an adapter an I can not find one for nothing!

Why can't you cut the bell housing from a type 1 transaxle & modify it to work?
I'm sure it's possible, unless the bug bell housing is to small, it's been almost 18 years since I have seen a Bus & Bug transaxle next to each other, so I have no idea

I like this idea

Or put the Corvair engine up front rather than a VW engine

Something I have thought about for a few years is to cast a bell housing for a VW engine
Nothing worse than rebuilding an engine, then installing it into your car only to find a severe oil leak, or some other problem that is tough to fix with the engine in the car
As for the cast bell housing thought I have had, it's not something I plan to do anytime soon, I'm still trying to clean up my garage/shop so I have more room to work, but, once I get around to the foundry & blacksmith section of my shop, I may just start on a bell housing piece, as well as few fabricate other VW related tooling & fixtures so I can get my machine shop set up for VW engines

I keep having visions of a bus bellhousing machined to bolt on a t5 with a modified input shaft. Been trying for years to pick up a couple of affordable housings so I can experiment.

Fab a steel blowproof style bellhousing, would need a bit of machining time too. Use to adapt a T-5 or torque tube setup.
