Default is this too weird?

The chrome on my shifter was pretty bad, so I sanded it down and painted it. I was feeling creative and thought it was a good idea at the time.
Now I'm not so sure.

What do you guys think?

Looks like snake skin. All that matters is whether you like it or not.

I think it looks far more interesting than chrome. Everybody has chrome, few people have snakeskin.

Do you have a rattlesnake head as a shifter ball? I think that would be cool.

It looked better in my head, lol
I was also thinking of a matching inlay on the dash.
Maybe I will try rattlesnake

I think a rattlesnake rattle would look really cool on the end, but I doubt shifting would be very comfortable

It's different, I like it. How about a matching round shift knob with a pair of snakes eyes painted on?

I'd be interested to know how you pulled off the scale effect...

I'd dig it more if there was a shift knob of matching character. Like said above, snake head, rattles, or maybe even one of those deals that has a tarantula or something embedded in amber...

Thanks guys.
I think I'm going to repaint to look more like rattlesnake skin.
Fungus, its super easy. You spray your base coat, in this case it was desert tan. When that's dry, cover it with some kind of mesh, and spray over it. I used one of those shower scrubby things.

I like the shift knob ideas, it will definitely pull the look together. I'm also leaning toward Mexican blanket seat covers, maybe some imitation barbed wire accents. A south western kinda thing

looks just like a snake to me.\
If it was a perfectly straight shifter it would look dumb. but with the bend in it it looks real (kinda)
I REALLY like the mexican-southwest theme ideer.
Tiki is overdone
WWII military aircraft is overdone
Vintage hotrod is overdone
I think snakeskin-barbwire-ponchos-serapes-leather & chonchos would be GREAT!!!

hmm, initial thought was "What the hell..." then I checked all the other posts about it.... if you angle the rattle right it would be a rather nice grip.... if you go the head route you can make it pretty nice... think "cane topper" there was an indiana jones bad guy that had a snake head with ruby eyes on the top of his cane??? or it was Rodger rabbit... heh... you can always put a snake skull inside of some Epoxy.

The only problem I have with putting a snake "head" on it, is that to me the way the shifter tapers, it looks like it should be the snakes tail. Maybe I will work on carving out some sort of rattle and curve it forward.
Of course, now that I painted it to look like a snake, I found a cool idea for a shift knob.
I found a totally cool deal at Hobby Lobby that I could have used, if I had gone a different way.

I'll probably still use it for a decoration on my dash, or maybe as a horn button.

Make it look like the tip of the snake's tail is coming out the nose socket!

Ooooooo, nice idea Fungus.
Make it look like the snake crawled through the skull and into the floor.

Thanks for the compliments and suggestions everyone.
Doc, great idea, I could paint the e brake handle to match and put a snake head on the end of that.

Sandfreaks,
This isn't for the blue car. It turned out to be a greatly over priced parts car. This is for my yellow one.

Looking for rattlesnake this and that, I found a little novelty item that I just may have to get and put on my beam at cruise ins
