Sweet idea using the fenders! Drag that ass end out into a pickup and you've got one of my extended cab truck ideas.

gonna be a challenge to open and close the doors with the windows up if you're gonna be runnig door glass

I'm pretty sure he means because of the door frames tacked to the roof. A bed would give it that cool Aussie Ute look.

Sounds like the remote idea will definitely work, but a bit of a pita and maybe even a bit of a safety issue you might want to think about. Definitely the elCamino/ UTE look I was thinking!

That's a very good idea using the fenders like that

One day I'd like to build a truck style Bug and make it an extended cab, but what is the cheapest way to go from the normal upright fan shroud to the flat ones they put in the type 3's and/or type 4's

If that cost to much I'll just build a flat stake side bed so they are removable if need be

Well maybe I should do a search and see how others have done it, I know I have sen a few pictures on here, so I'll do a search in the morning

thats the plan but dont know wich way im gona go , headed more toward the truck idea the oragenal plan was to go like the 34 ford rear end but you know how that shit goes you start with a plan in your head and on paper then ya look at the pile of metal on the floor and you say to your self well lookie here those rear fenders cut up would make good roof coners and it starts all over agine so give me your input good or bad and we will see what comes up next .

Good idea on the fenders, but how are you going to do the rear quarter windows with flange on bottom and front and no flange on the rest?

You can also split the window frame on the body so the front door glass sets against it, rather than up into it. Look at the way convertibles or any hardtop type car has the side window rubber for ideas. I realize it messes up your window frame portion connected to the door, this would also require modification.

Last, a small technicality - a roadster has no top or a removeable top. Your car is a chopped top, but not a roadster.

All will need some modification, so I would just use the best condition one. It will need to be cut down in length a lot, width some, maybe in height too. A lot of the VW pickups use an older bed, Model A is popular; but you can use almost anything dpending on what final appearance you want. You really just need the sides, front panel and tailgate. The floor will be cut out for engine clearance.

If it has a fixed top it ain't a roadster.

Just saying. A roadster is an open car.

Nice!

something to keep inmind , most of your new rag tops have a auto window , how it works is when you push or pull the door handle it lowers the window about a inch, to keep the glass from getting hung up on the top. that may help you on the windows. you can get this regulator out of a 2006 pt cruser rag top. as far as what yall have dunn it looks bad a** , if you have a donor car you can cut the section between the winsheld and hood and graft that on the rear and modifiy a front hood and you will have the look you going for.

Hey guys
scored a set of s/10 blazer rear quarters tail gate and rear doors for the bug going to cut them down so i can use the skins that way i can cover up the old wheel well openings and still have a truck bed , the other beds are to good to cut up and it will be less fab work. traded a set of sucide door kit and bear claws for all the parts and the rear quarters are just the rirgt fit so off to lowes to buy new drill bits and sawall blades pics coming soon
