That's what I had in mind Rob. Thanks. I think that this version looks better than the first one. But that's just my $.02.

#3 gets my endorsment. It uses natural body lines to break the colors - which I like.

Metal flake roof also gets my vote burried under a shit load of clear so it's glassy smooth.

Definitely better, I like how the curve in the paint line sort of mirrors the curve of the top of the windows but, I can't help but think the front piece of side trim is working against this layout. I like this one better now that you changed it and I like the front trim on it's own but, it seems like it needs to be further forward. Perhaps anchoring it from the front end like the rear piece?

What if the front chrome piece tapered into a thin piece that curved down to divide the colors, possibly with a matching piece along the top of the windows? I think it might help lengthen the car a bit.

As a thought, how about some '56 Chevy Bel Air trim? If you brought it from closer to the headlights and back to the back bumper I think it would look sweet. Plus a 2 tone job would have a nice divider that way. Of course if you keep it similar to this design, you would have to do some striping to break up the two colors, I think. Just my $.02...

Car looks sweet.

Need any help with wiring? *That* I can do

Thanks for all the input folks. Still not sure what I will do paint-wise. I do like the shorter trim and longer sweep of the paint break line that was suggested....

OK, finally got back out and worked on the Lead Sled today. I started out by finishing the reinforcement and welding of the a-pillars, including shaving the seal flange since it won't be needed.

Still have some grinding to do, but they are all set. Then I started willing in the cowl area left open after moving the windshield frame forward.

Still have the center to do. This will be the part of the new dash and will be a great canvas for some pinstripes.

Then I got to a major milestone for the project. I tacked the roof back on the car!!

Now I can start creating all the new sheet metal to tie the c-pillar to the body and for the rear cowl/vent area. Of course I still have lots more welding and filling to get the roof finished, but it is welded back on the car.

That's awesome!

Unfortunately, I bet your neighbors probably don't like it as much as the rest of us!

My neighbors are trying to sell their house and I have a 67 bug body, fiberglass dunebuggy body and the back half of a 77 bug in my yard...Maybe that's why they never talk to me

Actually, none of my neighbors have ever said anything about it. I am the block fix-it guy. All the kids bring their bikes/skateboards/rollerblades/etc to me when they break. I have redone stuff on 1/2 dozen houses on the block.

Plus I am always careful to only make noise after 9am or so and end before 9pm or so. Have to stay in good graces with the neighbors.

My neighbor's don't talk to me at all.

I never water the lawn or bushes.

I never wash my cars.

I chunk my smoke butts in the grass / bushes or whatever is handy.

I mow my lawn about once a month or so... when I feel like it.

I have my pan, or my body on rollers, or a rusty front quarter section... SOMETHIN sittin in my driveway at any given time...

I grind, weld, sand, hammer and generally blast old metallica CD's until midnight (or till I can't keep my eyes open anymore)

to quote Eddie...

Fuck em. it's MY house. and if they don't like it,

GET THE FUCK OUT!

Hope so. Wouldn't want you to break anything if you fall down.

I actually worked on the Lead Sled today!!!! Inspired by attending Steve Meet and wanting to roll a slammed and rodded car and have a large canvas for my stripping, I got back at it. Wow...it had been nearly a year since I last posted progress on it!

I had played around with the idea of extending the rear fenders a few weeks ago in order to alter further the proportions of the car. Make it more "sled-like". So I started by cutting the forward 2" off the rear fender (the blue piece in the photo below) and the forward 7" off a donor fender. Then I tacked them together. Here is the result.

This makes the whole car 5" longer...all hanging off the rear end.

I still had some daylight let so I cut out the patch for the fender skirt area and got it partially tacked in.

I will have to move the wheel opening forward the same 5", but I was going to be reshaping it anyway. Something like this...

I plan to form a raised and returned lip on the wheel opening similar to what is on the production wheel opening.

Still have the other side to do, but it felt good to be cutting and welding on her again.

What do ya all think?

I like that A LOT, John. The back end some of the same lines as my Merc around the taillights and such. I love the elongated look in conjunction with the lines of that back window.

For right now, I am planning on stock early Type 3 tailights. They will have just the right amount of "finniness" to them to complete the look. I will pop one on one of the fenders the next time I take pictures.

I like it too. Excentuates the look you have been working toward and leaves you with a a sort of tailfin, Very Cool.

Seems like it would make room for a larger engine if you wanted to go down that road.

Yep, That helps with the proportions of the car real well. I really like the way you're going with it John.

A stroke of brilliance.

I've seen patch panels for wheel openings on '50 domestic barges that might work on this. The first one that comes to mind is the '57 Chevy.
