The only problem I see with that is Pipe Fittings and Pipe aren't cheap anymore.

No, really... Buy a piece here, a piece there... the single most expensive piece should be the wood top.

Either way, always keep your eyes open on Craigslist. Solid core doors should show up once in a while to make a top.
