OB ...if it is a modified vehicle that is intended to look like something the factory made- but never did- it is called a phantom.

If I was going to ever do a Thing Truck, it would have to be slammed, front fender raise, painted steel wheels and chrome caps, chopped windshield and top, and a 6-8" extended wheel-base to get the proportions right.

Something like this....

So who is going to build it?????

The nose to front axle distance looks the same - so the extra 8" would be used to push the rear wheels rearward? Wouldn't the rear of the body also need to be pushed rearward the same amount to keep the engine covered . . . .

If so, the extra 8" of body would be added between the doors and rear fenders and it would have a stock rear overhang. In other words, it'd become a "long" bed pickup (not a bad thing in my book).

I added the 8" to the front of the bed of the truck. Rear axle to rear of body and front axle to front of body relationship is the same.

I added a tonneau cover and some ribs to the roof to make it more consistent with the rest of the body. Also another color variation....

that looks great just what I was thinking
I have an extra thing body, thinking very serious of making one with a 440 v8 twist .but I have two cummins jeeps to finish first
hopefully some will pick up the gauntlet .
how would it look with the front axle pushed out 8 to 10 inches

Here's a better view of that yellow one. I think the proportions are fine. There's a build thread for it somewhere on the net.

Extremely cool concept, a thing truck. The rounded cab roof on the rendition is sweet. I really like it. Keep the fresh ideas coming.

I love the yellow Thing truck but the roof always looked chopped off. I thought a little alteration to the roof might look a little better so I Photo Shopped it. I just think it fits better.

It needs the bead rolled in the sheet metal behind the wheel well like the stock thing. That flat smooth stretch just is missing something.

I wish I could find my pictures from the build journal on that truck. another victim of the hard drive failure on my old laptop. It looks great with the top removed.

Just cut up an old door and put a rib back there. BAM near perfect.
I like the un-photoshopped one, the flat rear top reminds me of the converted rovers, kinda hardcore.

I dunno DocMike, I think your cab needs something extra; say the rain gutters a la the Mexican Safari's cab. Or, a more rounded cap, like the short cap Scout look.

I also think, sorry, that it shows that Jaranson's lowered Thing is THE look for this design and that a separated bed looks better compared to the one piece body style. It's not as stylish riding high, imo.

It's a cool concept.
