Hey Fernon, I just ran across this video on youtube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKC3zdbLMrI

I'm pretty sure it isn't you, but they're making money off it and wanted to let you know so you can get into contact with Youtube about it. He's already made a fair amount of change on it by the # of views. Its good to have the video up, but you should be making the money on it not this rip-off.

OK, well thanks for the heads up. I have been seeing all kinds of people and companies using my car to either promote them or their products and taking credit for the build.

Although I do appreciate the fact that people like the car, it would at least be nice for them to give credit were credit is due.

I know I haven't been on here in a while with any updates and there have been many, I have just been to busy with life like everyone else to sit down and post things up here. I will try to make an effort to do so.

That being said, this site and the people that are on here have always had my back and I want to thank you. This is the comment that I left on the website that made the video. Since I cannot confirm they are or actually have made money off of it I tried to keep the comment low key.

Hello everyone and thank you for the kind words. I did not make this video nor did I authorize anyone to use the images that were taken from my build thread on Volksrods.com (http://www.volksrods.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19805) used to make this video. I do appreciate the effort that went in to making this video but I had nothing to do with it except for the 7 years of my time that it took to build the Volksrod. If you wish to learn more about the build and see some of the finished work that is not in this video you can follow me on Volksrods.com (http://www.volksrods.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19805) or Instagram @efernon Again thank you for the kind words about the car but I did not have anything to do with this video.

Again, thank you for the heads up and I will try and post some new updates for the car.

Why do you have to "put your two cents in,"
but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"?
Where's that extra penny going to?

If you want the video removed, there is a "more" tab under the video. you can report that they used your content without your permission. I think showing your full build would easily surpass fair use laws. They are definitely making a grab for some easy money on your work with the ridiculous amount of ads in that video. looks like the guy made around $100 off of you so far.

It's Been A While

I don't even know where to begin, a lot has happened and a lot has been done since the last time I posted on this Forum. The Volksrod for the most part is done (OK, it will never be done LOL) but I have finished a large majority of the things that I wanted done to the car and I have been driving the living shit out of it ever since.

Unfortunately I have not been documenting the final stages of the build like I was before because I just wanted to work on the car and not stop every five seconds to document what I was doing.

One of the last things I documented was the inner panels for the rear seat section of the car.

After working on the design for the panels I began to layout the design on the outer panel. The rear panels are made in two pieces, the inner panel is steel and the outer panel is made from 1/8" brown board (peg board without the holes).

Then after all of the cuts were made to the outer panel I sealed the inner steel panel so that it would not rust.

Then I wrapped the inner steel panel with a perforated black vinyl and the outer panel with a weathered tan vinyl to match the seats (wrapping the vinyl around the curves and into the holes was a nightmare).

Here is a close-up of the two materials together.

This is what the panels look like installed into the car.

I have made many changes to the car since I started to drive it, too many to list and had several set-backs and horror stories happen along the way. I will save you from all of the boring text that nobody reads anyways and leave you with pictures of the car.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I introduce to you...
The Fernon Chop...

Until Next Time...

Thank you Sir... I don't know how Hot VW's goes about what qualifies for their magazine, but I do appreciate the props from you and everyone else that has seen the car.

The only thing I can say for sure is that it looks a thousand times better in person than it does in pictures....

Fantastically Brilliant! The finished rod and level of detail are just phenomenal! X 1000. Your creation would be a great addition to DB & H VW's and make a heck of a cover car.

Here is a short video of the car running. I need to find some time to do a proper photo shoot and make a decent video for the car.

I think there's something wrong with your camera, Fernon... In a lot of the photos there's this little red box that shows up... Maybe just a lighting issue...

Stellar Work and results... Of course the folks will steal your work for self promotion... Some people have no original thoughts... like me... But I love building stuff. But I also won't steal your photos and designs for my build...

Fabulous, Fantastic

I hope that sounds ok with all the time & remarkable amount of work you have put into your Volksrod over the last what, 9 years

I agree with Jeff, except it should be on the cover

A very important tip about doing this. Make sure that your template is cut right the first time because once you straighten the frame and re-bend it, the aluminum channel hardens and it is almost impossible to re-bend it to the buck again (go ahead and ask me how we know this)

Forgive me if I missed it but did you use any heat when straightening and then rebending window frames??

Epic build!

Yes, you anneal the aluminum to soften the metal and change the physical properties of the material but by doing this you also harden the aluminum when it is cooled and it will crack or break if you try to bend it again, so you really only get one shot to make the frame. You can also try to bend it without the heat but again once you start bending aluminum or any kind of metal you change the properties of it.

The same thing happens when we make of of the speed holes / dimple die holes in the car, all of the holes make the metal lighter and by dimpling them it strengthens the metal as well.

Thank you.....as all the pop-out frames I am finding are pretty pricey...so leaning as you go is an expensive proposition on this deal.

Yes, they are not cheap and also not easy to find around here, it took us years of going to swap meets and VW shows to amass the pop-out collection we wound up with to make them... I can tell you we went thru at least 4 sets of pop-outs to get the final frames done. The front Safari is made from 2 pop-outs seamed together on the sides so we could fit the windshield into it.
