Okay guys here’s what I’ve been working on.


Today was eventful. I had one carb catch on fire, so after cleaning and vacuuming up the dust and cleaning out the carbs I can’t get it to start.

Then again there was no damage done to anything, and I just installed these carbs.

I’m unfamiliar with the procedure to get a baseline with these Kadron carbs. The dizzy was timed set at 30 degrees advance at 3.5k rpm so that shouldn’t be be problem and I can occasionally get it to start but it back fires heavily and starts then it dies immediately.

Any advice would be appreciated as I’m out of my element and we all gotta start somewhere.

Make sure you aren't 180° out or wrong order. 1432

There’s tons of Kadron advice on the samba. I never had them.

I found a vacuum leak. The balance tube barn fitting broke off in my hand. I also replaced the fuel filter under the gas tank as it was ancient , and well the plastic was soft and almost sponge like,

I think I’m having a fuel pressure issue so I have an electric fuel pump with a fuel regulator on it that I’m just going to install and Bypass the mechanical one.

Rebuilt the carbs got them running it idles but there’s backfire out of one of the carbs only the one on the drivers side.

Intake leak. Spray carb cleaner around the base. If idle picks up, leak. If not, move up to carb to manifold gasket.

It’s an intake vacuum leak. I’m going to replace the gaskets on both side. I rebuilt the carbs and now after doing what I did it’s now popping out of both carbs which is an improvement but, the left side still is leaking so I’m just going to cut my self some gaskets.
