Back into VW's
So maybe it isn't a v-rod... but at least it is air cooled and a bug! I sold my AMC javelin a few months ago and decided it was time to get a vw again.
So here it is... a 69 cal-look. built a few years ago in Arizona. Zero rust, which was a massive selling point. shaved door handles, corbeau seats, sewfine interior, custom gauges, 1904 stroker with dual weber's, etc, etc...
I am working 72-84 hrs a week right now so I haven't had time to give it a good detailing. I should have a chance before I take it to its first local show on August 7th though. I will get some more pics posted then!
Sorry, but not gonna cut this one up. But maybe the next one. (there is always a "next one" right?!)

lol I hear ya! It is a lot lower than it looks in the pics. I was going to get a set of "street tubes " exhaust, but it is no way they would clear. I will probably go to the old stand-by stinger just to get rid of the dumb looking (in my opinion) quiet packs. They tend to drag too.
I have not found any new exhaust systems that really impress me. I remember there being some better looking stuff out there 10-15 years ago. I have access to a exhaust shop, so I may just have to build my own?

Just pickin, really. I'm planning on my fake Heb dragging the ground. But I'm used to the ground clearance on my F250 4x4, so we'll see what happens.

Re: Back into VW's
Nice! I sold my Javelin too - I realized that I have too many projects - decided to let some go so I can do the important ones. Javelins are cool, but VWs are just so much more fun.

So, selling the Javelin will be 'spearheading' your progress on the VW projects....

AH-HA-HA Another slit to the ol' comedy wrist!
I would say that once I sold my AMC, I "darted" to the internet and waited for the right car to come along.

Re: Back into VW's
Time for an update I guess.
The engine had a bottom end rattle when starting and oil pressure would drop once hot. Not terrible, so I figured I would toss some bearings in it and call it good. Wrong!!! lol The bearings actually were in decent shape, but the crank was junk. The journals were shiny still but worn down.
So, I have ordered some goodies that will be in Wednesday. New stroker crank, h-beam rods, Engle w120 cam, straight-cut gears, oil pump with filter, and 1.25 rockers. I will finish doing some port work on the heads this weekend. I am hoping to have it in a local car show on Aug 12.
On a side note, I will be taking pics of progress, but not sure how I am going to share them now. (photobucket b.s.)I will figure out something I guess.

one option is to host your pics on Facebook... it works well... but uploading and all is kind of a hassle. Not too hard but I'm sure FB will not die any time soon...

I don't blame you... but it isn't much worse than Photobucket when it comes to setting up an account and using it to host photos... you don't have to participate in any of the drama and conversations... but you will probably LOOOOOVE the Game requests... LOL

Re: Back into VW's
I don't have one of them thar "smart phones". I did just set up a imgur account and will try it out right now!
So, I got all my parts in from CarCraftStore.
I heated the crank gears (Straight-cut) on the stove and popped them on.
http://imgur.com/kfupBh2
The I-beam rods did not have the bolts with them for some reason, but the guys at car craft got them in the mail to me quick! Great guys to deal with!
http://imgur.com/ScdtWGw
Got the block all cleaned up.
http://imgur.com/UDa5CzD
90.5's cleaned

Assembled the rest of the crank

put it in

I am going to finish putting it together and get it running this weekend. I am supposed to have it in a show on the 12th, so I gotta get on it every chance I get between now and then!! I will keep you posted!
