Nice looking Bug! I'm trying to find something like that here in Houston! BTW, guess you know your images come up as a link you have to click on. Annoying, but better than paying photobucket jerks.

Re: Back into VW's
I haven't had much to update for a while. Just been driving it to cruise-ins and shows fairly regularly.
I just ordered a new set of wheels a few minutes ago! So once they get in and i get them on the car, I will update with new pics.
I will be selling the Empi 8's soon if anyone is interested in them.

Re: Back into VW's
It is amazing how much difference a set of wheels can make. I wanted something that wasn't so common and I am glad I went the route I did.

Re: Back into VW's
I am getting ready to do a couple more upgrades on the 69 before car show season kicks in. I have not been able to find an exhaust system I like, so I have decided to just build my own. I have changed my mind on design twice so far, so we will see how this goes?!
I would like to change up the shifter, but that has been a problem as well. I love the Flat4 Eliminator, but the reviews I have found all insist they suck. Otherwise, it is the same old shit that has been on the market for forever. As much as I want to like the Mamba shifter, I just can bring myself to actually think it looks good.
I will be upgrading the ignition system as well. I thought about going DIS, but think I will just go with the Pertronics flamethrower set-up. But could change my mind again before ordering parts.

Re: Back into VW's
Thinking about ordering this shifter:
https://wolfgangint.com/store/produc...short-shifter/
No pic on the website, but I saw it in HotVW's.
I know it is a new shifter, and no reviews, but it looks like a good design, and appears to be made well. Any input?

Re: Back into VW's
Well, just ordered a Night Stick shifter , xenon headlamps, a complete ignition system, and a baffle for my ceramic stinger. I have been crawling under and measuring things, and every idea I had for building the exhaust failed. Either too low, or tires too close to the inner fenders, etc. So I am just going to throw my stinger on it for now. Anything to get those dual Q-P's off of it. I just may not be able to hear the straight cut cam-gears any more. I am hoping running half a baffle will still leave them somewhat noticeable?

Re: Back into VW's

You may have to click on links to see pics.... but you ain't doin' nothin' anyway.
Exhaust first I guess.
The old stuff I got tired of dragging:

The stinger with baffle only, no f-glass packing.

Now the old headlights with "eyebrows":

Left one installed:

Second one in:

Now, the stock shifter with console:

New Night Stick shifter installed. The throw is really close on it, but I really like it. I had to do away with the console, but I am good with that.

Next is replacing the ignition system. I will let ya'll know when I get that done as well.

Re: Back into VW's
It has a spring loaded gate on the lower right hand side that the shifter rides against. (You can see it in the side pic) It takes a fair amount of tension to move it. No adjustment on it, but I guess if you wanted more tension you could always install some washers, or put different springs on it.

Re: Back into VW's
Got some more things knocked out on the car a few days ago.
I had a front caliper sticking, and also had a bearing noise on that wheel, so I replaced the caliper and bearings/races.
I went back to a standard points distributor after having issues with the new electronic one as well as the old electronic one. I think it feels a little down on power, but not a whole lot. At least it is running smooth now!
While I had it up in the air, I dropped it another inch in the front. I don't think I am going any lower. The front beam in 2" off the ground and the rear is 1" away from the bump stops.
More parts on the way! I am hoping weather works out for the Bugout in a few weeks. I am still planning on that trip.

Re: Back into VW's
Spent some time today doing a few little things to get it ready for the BugOut.
When doing the caliper, I noticed a weak spot on the brake hose.
So it got a new one.
The other side looks ok.
Fudge it, it gets a new one anyway.
Reupholstered rear seat hides many things. (spots on camera lens, not seat)
Gotta love Arizona no-rust cars!!!
I have a carpeted panel that lays where the seat bottom goes, so when I pull the bottom out, you see this...
Last time cleaning it, I noticed the rear window gasket torn.
Replaced that as well.
Since I am driving a couple hours away, I decided to put the quiet exhaust back on. One less thing to piss off the police.
Finally (for today) decided to polish up the aluminum running boards. This is partially through the first pass with Mother's polish.
So that was my day. Had to do everything in the ol' port-a-garage due to it raining like a beeotch today. No big deal, that is where it lives anyway. Just harder to see in there.
I don't have a lot more to do to it before then. I will post up pics when I get them done. Also, I am gathering up some tools and a few extra parts to throw in the trunk before I go.

Re: Back into VW's
I finally got the lower deck lid stand-off in on the 15th. I ordered it on April 27. Took long enough! It looks real nice. I did have to tweak it a little because it didn't fit overly good either. Oh, well. Can't expect but so much now-a-days.
Anyway, the way it looked with upper stand-offs:
You have to remove the rubber lid bumper:
It gets replaced with stand-off which bolts through that hole:
So, with upper and lower stand-off's, it looks like this:
So, I am most of the way through getting it ready for the Bugout. Still have a couple things to tidy up, but I will get that knocked out next week.
