Nice pics. I miss racing. Raced for almost 20 years and sold mine 3 years ago. Thanks for posting them. How was the turn out? SEVWA was at Farmingtin in NC also.

Not sure why it wouldn't load, let's try this.....I did very well Timbo, lost in the semis due to a bad track surface, but I got season points champion. Best light of the day was .002, and my best E.T. was 7.49.

I am with you Timbo

This driving on the steet is kinda boring to me...I cant wait to get back out on the track...I ran oval track dirt stuff for 10 seasons in a Dodge Neon...there is a feeling when the green flag drops and you sail off into turn one that if I could bottle it I would be a rich man....I feel so alive when I race...I am doing the street stuff for a change of pace for a while...

Never did straight line stuff tho...I am not quick enough...takes me 2 or 3 laps just get my groove on...I am really old so oval track stuff fits me really well...

I need that release I think that I get from it...street stuff doesnt have that same adreline rush at all...

Thanks for sharing the pictures...love all those VW's

I don't think this guy was giving the finger to me, probably his friends. But, I didn't see it until after I took the pic. Lol

I picked upped, rear glass fenders and a early license plate light.

Fodder Dan, too bad we missed each other. I think I'm lifting the body off Nov 1st.

I don't know how fast that black bug is, but after seeing everyone slip sliding around and that buggy crash, I had my harnesses cinched extra tight and both hands on the wheel all day!! On my last pass I was spinning and dancing around at over 70 mph!

I peeked into his trailer briefly but I didn't want to be a Looky-Loo. It is a total write-off. He felt OK afterward, just sore, but I found out later that the next day he was in the ICU for bleeding around his brain. Last I heard he was stable. He basically went head on into the right wall from the left lane. Those buggies have almost nothing up front.

So do they let you guys race without roll cages in the cars and firesuits on??....just wondering...I know the oval track cars have to have both...

They are very leaniant on cars slower than 9.99, which is pretty much all of us. In an open car like a buggy, they usually require a full fire suit, up to date Snell helmet, and arm restraints. Those generic buggies are built from super thin, small O.D. tubing. My cage is legal to basically go as fast as I want and it is way thicker and bigger than what those buggies have. I wear a fire jacket, no pants. Well......pants.....but not fire resistant ones..........And yes, a lot of cars don't run a cage. A lot of racers just want to run their street cars, if you required a cage in ALL cars, a lot of people just won't do it and interest in the sport will dwindle to nothing. I saw guys there with just lap belts. It's funny, you can run a 50 year old lap belt, but I have to replace my 5 point harnesses every 2 years................

That buggy used to be stock height for years and he slammed the suspension semi recently. I wonder if he had a caster issue. I did that in my glass buggy at Atco. I thought that I was going to hit both walls and managed to miss them. Ended up in the opposite lane, facing the starting line. All from not enough caster. I was really low with only one set of shims. Switched to 2 and later raised and angled the frame head. Sucks to be him. He ain't no spring chicken, either.

"t's funny, you can run a 50 year old lap belt, but I have to replace my 5 point harnesses every 2 years................"
That is the same discussion I had with the SEVWA people. I raced my street bug at Silver Dollar Dragway and the tec guy wasn't gonna let me race because my 3 year old belts from my race car were expired. I asked him if the car ahead of me passed, he said yes because it had the original seatbelts. I asked him why a 70 bug with 40 year old belts were better than my 3 year old belts were. He said "I never thought about that" and he let me race.

There needs to be different guide lines for different race cars. NHRA Pro Stock, I can see replacing them every 2 years but our bracket cars running 4-9 seconds slower should be good as long there are no tears, cuts, dry rot or other defects.

The bottom one is the crash. I always watch crash videos, not to be a jerk and want to see carnage, but to try and learn something.

I saw it live, too. Seeing it again, you can see he was chasing that thing from the get go.
