You want to "drop" a I-beam axle ?

Or make your own tube axle ?

Not that hard, but your welding needs to be 100%.

A lot of the streetrod places will do custom order tube axles.
They have the material, experience, and equipment,to do it right the first time.

Just don't deal with MAS.

Welding being 100% is definatly taken care of, I am more interested in tubing types and thickness, any general pointers, how much caster I should have etc.

6-10 degrees of Caster, king pin inclination
will depend on the spindes you use.

The bosses for the perch bolts are usually
the same angle as the king pin bosses.

Or you could weld Batwings on.

Then you have to figure out how to bend the tube.

Check the streetrod sites,to see what people advertise
their axles being made from.

Didn't somebody use the spindles and those pieces that hold them from a king/link front end to build a drop axle of their own? Cool idea - keeps it all VW, matching lug patterns, etc.

the cost to get set up to build a good dropped axle, and the learning curve to have confidence in the end result will cost you more than buying one.

You can do it, but it aint easy, and it aint cheap.

Buy heck, go ahead---you might be the next Axle Bid Dog!

Their name has come up on the HAMB several times.
Some people only research a company AFTER they spend
their money,not before.

Speedway Motors also sells the kingpin bosses for 28-48 Ford spindles so that you can fab your own axle without machining the bosses. They exsist for sprint cars and early diggers with custom suspensions.
They have a step that slips into the axle tube where you weld them on for alignment. If you can build a jig to index them vertically you're set....

Holy mother of 7 year old posts batman!

I was working on a trailer axle for a small trailer for a my FireAero. going to mount a cartop carrier on a small frame using ball joint spindles bearings, etc. the Fire Aero uses a Bj front end and a VW rim for the rear so I want a common wheel tire for everything. it's all cut and mocked up but I just ran out of free time and motivation to get the axle to a certified welder.
